Why is gold so hard? What am I doing wrong?

give me replay code ill try to see whats wrong

I’ve seen this said before, but I never heard it from a dev. I know you don’t have to do this… but can you point me to where this was said? I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m just saying It’s relatively new information to me.

OR I glossed over it in something that I did read.

You’ll have to go back to before Jeff left Blizzard. It’s well known that QP and Comp have separate MMRs and the only time he mentioned grinding QP was forever ago. Outside of that, Freedo from YourOverwatch, discusses it at length in some of his videos from within the past 12 months where he cites comments from a discord that blizzard devs and content creators are in.

OP has posted some VODs from his Twitch: (For some reason the link isn’t clickable from the quote, so you will have to scroll to the top)

But actually, no need to bother giving OP a VOD Review, I have already given him a very indepth one of his Silver Lucio gameplay as a GM Lucio Player, but he chose to completely ignore it. Sadly OP is in the rigged matchmaker group and doesn’t not take responsibility for his own actions and gameplay…

Here is my review:

I disagree with the idea that people who throw matches don’t take the game seriously. I think they actually take it far too seriously. If they feel conditions aren’t optimal for a win, then they give up and try to punish their teammates for ruining their match. That’s not someone who “doesn’t take comp seriously” – that’s someone whose life revolves around Overwatch. The world needs less of that.

Why do I feel like I’ve experienced way too many of these kinds of players? :joy::rage:

There are a lot of these people even without your above referenced criteria.

Here here!!

He can be a Silver Lucio and still not be wrong about points of the matchmaker.

The most obvious one, of course, is that every new account starts in Gold.

GM on a stream? Gold. Bronze player looking for the easy key to Plat? Gold. Master wanting to play with his Silver buddies? Gold.

It’s literally the most random rank in existence for precisely that reason. So, yes, you WILL encounter all of these issues and more as you try and fight into and through Gold. And further, the SR adjustment for stats is skewed precisely for this reason - you’re expected over time to play in Gold like you’re ranks higher than Gold to carry, otherwise you WILL lose more SR for a loss than you gain for a win. It’s a deflationary system by design.

My advice? Just don’t comp. If you’re not top 5%, it’s not worth the stress, and as many of the top 5% will tell you, it’s still not worth the stress anyways, which is why many have left for other games, or content themselves bunny bashing with their 12th alt.

Perhaps if enough people leave comp, they’ll finally decide to take a hard look at the obvious flaws in the ladder. But I doubt it; these are the same devs who looked at current tank populations and thought what they needed was more tankbusters.

In a normal video game, yes. In OW, getting better means tougher opponents = always the same. You might get better, but you don’t really feel it (in my experience). I’ve gotten better, but the matches are harder and there’s still the same amount of trolls everywhere. I’d have to smurf to feel the progress I’ve made, which actually explains the large number of smurfs in the game.

I found this, but it is specifically tied to a question about 4by4 deathmatch, which is an entirely different gamemode. I don’t know if QP and Comp are different still. Looking for the Freedo, I will say this, I take all the Blizz news from Freedo with a grain of salt, while he is a good source of info on this game, he isn’t perfect and doesn’t actually work for them… so while I will believe him, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was incorrect.

https:// mystgraphics. com/overwatchforumarchive/competitive.html

now I also don’t know the guy who archived this from a hole in the wall, so I’m open still.

MMR works very similarly to SR. There are some minor differences that make it feel worse though, when you just watch that number. For example, it’s possible to win a match and not gain any MMR. We make it so that if you win a match, you always gain SR – even if it’s just a little bit – to feel psychologically rewarding. But MMR’s entire goal is creating fair matches – which isn’t always fun to look at and certainly not “rewarding” for players looking for pats on the back or a sense of progression. So SR “chases” your MMR very closely, except in a rare case of severe SR decay at GM/Masters/Diamond level of play.

Tanks being bad (and ~75% of tanks are complete dog p## (below high plat)) are the root cause of so many truly awful gameplay experiences for what is the MAJORITY of the players.

Thank God they are going to 1 tank per team in OW2. Zero tanks per team, or AI tanks would probably make for a better experience, but I digress.

it’s called this game is dead and smurfs only

I can’t believe you’re still in these forums and haven’t lost all hope. Definitely on the side of insanity than anything else

Oh I have. The community is lost :joy:

Most of the time I sit back and watch.

Other times I enjoy a good argument here and there.

I’ve already lost my mind

Glad some one on these forums actually sees the truth. Cheating in this game is crazy prevalent but all the white knights would have you believe it doesnt happen cause they either aren’t good enough too see it or are cheaters themselves

Uh….

None of the content creators work for blizzard. At least none of the ones I’ve ever spent time watching.

That said, there is a discord for the content creators to interact with the devs. He’s referencing those conversations.

Yeah. I asked for devs in the og post you responded to. You gave me Freedo, i gave the benefit of the doubt. You said he referenced it. I have not found that video. I found devs talking about it, in a way that is vague.

Edit i take it back. I never said devs. I thought it was implied.

I recall a Blizz update from like 2019 or something :woman_shrugging:t2:

Well after role queue release and before hero bans (I think )

ok. cool lmk if you come across it. Cause i can’t seem to find that definitive thing.

You arent doing anything wrong. This comp mode is the worst of all games. It is 100% based on winning. If you try and carry a team you will keep getting bad players till you drop enough to where you finally get a forced win. Anyone who denies this or defends the system is trolling or white knightning or gets good team rng.,

I get sooo many 5-10+ game losing streaks to where I lose maybe 7 SR and then they finally give me 3 wins and I am then back almost where i was in SR. But then only to be greeted with another 5-10 game losing streak because i carry 99% of the time but as a solo queue you are screwed and need the rng team gods on your side.

Games like Valorant actually give you “SR” on a loss if you are carrying yet lose. Sadly OW2 doesn’t change any of the SR, MMR, Comp mode etc.

Oh. You don’t want to hear how beta comp was because it was awesome. Sadly we only got to do beta comp for a short time and then they completely changed it for when OW launched and for season 1 and season 1 still was a different comp mode system. Season 2 is how comp mode is now (well till Role Queue)
