Why is Gency unethical?

mercy doesnt like violence but participates in missions and has a pistol? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: I mean that thing is deadly. She promotes peace no violence but that doesnt mean she doesn take the actions need be. Pharah doe is a 180 degree difference and relation would end toxic because pharah believes justice needs to be served hard which makes her different from mercy by alot.

Just because you don’t see the difference between war and murder doesn’t mean other people don’t. War is different because it’s got a purpose. Which is why people have different opinions about it.

Next time you try to paint someone’s actions strange or absurd, maybe look at from a different pov than your own.

Why would it be toxic just because they don’t agree on literally everything? No relationship between any two people ever was founded on every single thought they had being in agreement. People can accommodate for their differences to an extent and make a relationship work.

I think applying ethics to video games, even more specifically violent ones no matter the caliber, is dumb. Who cares if Mercy + Genji would be unethical in the real world, Overwatch isn’t real.

they were mentioning pharah and mercy is better than that of genji and mercy because genji is cold blooded murderer when he doesnt even promote violence he just hated his brother for killing him (i mean i woukd be) and not pharah who literally promote the opposite mind set of mercy

Retribution was 8 years ago. We don’t know why Genji was moved from Blackwatch to main Overwatch, but it likely had to do with Blackwatch being suspended after the Venice Incident. Genji’s opinion on Reyes’ behaviour is unknown, and Genji probably had no choice in being moved out of Blackwatch.

Genji does change, but that isn’t until he leaves Overwatch entirely and meets Zenyatta.

You haven’t read fanfiction than I don’t agree with it. But, people have written stories with a minor and an adult. Culture has allowed teenagers to be married to adults.

I think that’s equally as wrong as what you said. :man_shrugging: Are we really just devolving to bashing each others’ ships to justify our enjoyment of them, now?

I mean, people are just going off of what they have seen of her character so far. I agree, we haven’t gotten enough lore in general. At what point do we say we have enough lore though to judge the character?

I think most people see Mercy as being ethical, whether she is or isn’t we don’t actually know entirely quite yet. Which is why people are bringing up the real world scenario of patient / doctor relationships being unethical.

This is all working on the assumption Mercy is ethical. Considering what we’ve seen of her interactions with Moira, her concerns about the biotic rifle, etc, I’d say we likely do know enough about her already to have a fair judgement of her character and whether or not she tries to be ethical or not.

Yes. Because Mercy is trying her best to help those imperiled by war. She doesn’t want to though. And her pacifism put her at constant odds with OW leadership.

I agree. This was my point.

he does change during his time in overwatch. Also Retirbution was before uprising to my knowledge that is 8 years ago not retribution.

In the group picture from Ana’s origin story, Pharah was 11-12, which would put Mercy at 16-17. Chu specifically said that she was a college student visiting the Overwatch HQ. Mercy wasn’t a member of Overwatch when she was 17. She joined after becoming a surgeon, which was likely in her mid/late 20s.

Everyone should ship what they want to ship, but that doesn’t mean everyone will like the pairings one chooses. So that’s why you’ll find those who are against it because they’ll find something negative about it. As long as no one is demanding their ship be the only ship, I see no issue why it’s such a big deal.

Most people know that murder is bad. They don’t actually know too much about things like patient doctor relationships and their real world harm. So I personally dislike when stories glamorize it and gloss over that, lying by omission about the harm it can cause.

That’s a perfectly valid reason. You may not agree with me. But that doesn’t make it stupid or illogical. Not everything you disagree with shows lack of reason on someone else’s part.

wait
wait
but that means she was 21 when pharah was 13 in the picture OK
kinda creepy but the offical ages makes it seem not like that

If Pharah was 13 in the picture, Mercy was 18. Mercy was not a member of OW in that picture.

Never said it showed lack of reason, just that I think arguing ethics for video games at all is a waste of time, especially for something so minor in comparison. You and I hardly agree on anything so I’m not really surprised. It was more for another perspective for anyone else that isn’t as irritated about a real-world thing to remind them its just a game.

I am completely aware it’s a video game.

but i was confirmed she was 12 to 13 in that picture and according to Doctor size she was 21 when she joined overwatch team OOF

People will freak the heck out over anything that conflicts with their ships.
