Why is Gency unethical?

Source? Who would say this?

Yeah, I don’t think there’s anything unethical about it. I do think they would not work well together, given their totally different mindsets.

some military used to and still encourage dating between soldier because it makes them fight far more better than you know alone

wanted to add:
she only saved his life and didnt even contribute to anything else
So i wanna say THANK YOU
if thats your rule mercy and pharah should be a thing doe

just wanted to add that

Agreed. I really really dislike them as a couple because it compromises their core beliefs. They have such a wildly different view of the world, and these aren’t just beliefs, their professions make them actively work towards the goals of them. So it’s not like they can just make it a topic they don’t talk about, if they did they’d have to not share a significant portion of their lives.

I think it would probably end up being pretty toxic.

It’s not illegal to write of fictional characters breaking real laws, and doing so hurts no one unless they choose to read something that offends them for some reason.

Because in the real world doctors and patients being in a relationship is unethical. Not sure why anyone is pushing ethics into a video game, first off. Secondly, a video game where there is murder, espionage, kidnapping, obvious and upfront animal experimentation via Hammond and Winston, human experimentation via Moira and Reaper…Not sure why this is the “unethical” thing people are clinging on to.

That’s true. But I think the best works at least acknowledge there is something improper about it.

but how do you know that?
Genji changed from the retribution mission by alot. he left out the violence it promoted and tried to don a new mindset. He seems to like mercy for what she is doing alot thats why he listens to her. Even now he is ten times better than he was back then because he promotes peace not violence like a certain individual (mercy cough)

Doomfist isn’t depicted as cutesy. They very clearly made him the villain. War is different than murder, ethically speaking. So is espionage.

Most of the bad acts are not romanticized. We are able to sympathize or even like the villains, but they aren’t being depicted as in the right.

Meanwhile Mercy+Genji isn’t treated that way.

That paragraph was about Mercy and Pharah. Also, Mercy is a pacifist.

I think people are just worried about it potentially seeming out of character, not that there’s anything actually wrong with people writing about something unethical in of itself.

They’re not being treated what way? They’ve barely been treated at all.

Ya don’t have to be their normal physician to have them as a patient. It’s part of the medical field that you shouldn’t date patients. Having a crush isn’t unethical and from Genji’s perspective there isn’t much wrong, but from Mercy’s end it is unethical. Don’t date patients and don’t date lower ranking officers in the military (which wasn’t as bad when he was in Blackwatch. Like that could maybe slide, but now that they are in the same strike team…).

In the end though, ship who ya wanna ship. I can’t speak for everyone, but the bigger shame is that the only Mercy lore we get is directly tied to Genji. She is the only launch Overwatch member hero who has no lore, and she has been in the game since before the public even saw the game.

As wrong or unethical.

Has it been treated as right and ethical? Or does it have so little exposure as to be mostly neutral? It’s not even canon yet, really, and you’re complaining about it not being treated a certain way.

Yes. Because it’s being treated as purely cute. It’s similar to a lie by omission.

I don’t see how any of that actually has to do with what I said. How is murder acceptable just because it has the label “war”? There is nothing ethical about it. I don’t really see how anything you said changes anything about what I said.

Bad things

  1. Murder
  2. Kidnapping
  3. Torture
  4. Animal Abuse

Barely Questionable

  1. Mercy + Genji

You realize it isn’t even canon right? That’s like saying they don’t portray a non-existent relationship between Widow and Tracer as Tracer cheating on Emily. They’d have to make the cheating happen first.

We don’t have enough lore for it to be about being out of character. I’ve seen plenty of people talking about the actual ethics of doctors dating patients, even if they are just pixels, and significantly less talking about if it is out of character for them.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

But, Genji hasn’t been a patient of mercy since he left overwatch years ago. And at this point there not even a confirmed couple.
