People play this game for years now and they still can’t do their damn job.
When ever I play dps I am practically forced to play sniper and take no damage or play something with self heal like Tracer, Soldier, Reaper because our healers are brain dead.
As Tank there is always at least one guy to ask for more shield claiming Hammond, Roadhog and Sigma are throw picks.
Supports are also not allowed to play anything but Moira, Ana and Mercy because they can’t go in 1v6 with Zen orb and stay alive or be in the open for no reason.
I disagree, self learning is a thing, I feel pretty good about my game sense and knowledge but that doesn’t just come from nowhere, the internet exists and people should use it.
Because of 80% of smart dps players and 20% of stupid supports and tanks.
All smart people play dps so the chance that you will have a stupid dps in your comp is practically zero.
I really don’t get it either. It is a reason people scream about terrible match making. However, it seems the vast majority of players simply have no CLUE how to properly play the game as a team or do not care about it at all.
The not caring part, that will end up being the reason everyone stops playing. However, I think the root cause is due to other FPS games (like COD). It’s all about the kill numbers to a crazy number of players in other FPS games so they play this one the exact same way.
Except, in Overwatch, playing for kills is the #1 way to lose the game.
You hear it all the time “I have gold…” but they still lose. They don’t get that everyone on the team can have ONE kill total and still win the game.
It’s been like that since the beginning. Overwatch is a new type of game format, team FPS, one rarely seen. It has so far failed as a game design - imo - because no one understands it when they play.
My take from down here in Gold is that Tanks and Support are the real carry but everyone expects DPS to do it. If your support play heroes that don’t jive with the team comp it’s very obvious very quickly. If tanks are lacking in aggression it’s very obvious very quickly. Everyone is still stuck in the pick meta mentality but when it’s a flat out roflstomp it’s always the tanks pushing you back into spawn, not the tracer that blinked herself dry only to recall 5meters away.
Not saying that DPS can’t carry just saying it’s more effective at this rank for the tanks to carry through aggression and support through massive AOE sustain (Moira Lucio). Plus tbh ask any of us in Gold what the current win condition is and you’d hear dialup noises…
Yeah but they don’t. There is so much out there Streamers, coaches like Jayne heck even Youtubers like YourOverwatch are good enough.
Yet nobody learns all you see is ranks getting better mechanics over time but doing the same mistakes.
I wouldn’t call 80% smart but yeah definitely more than the other roles. Most of the time my teammates can’t even tell the difference between me and a garbo dps when I am spawncamping the enemy dps or supports and still get blamed for a lost team fight.
Yep my most satisfying games have been where I don’t have everything gold and the team does just as much or more.
the real issue is that the intelligent ones just keep quiet and don’t say much because you can’t argue with an idiot. there is no way the stupid ones are more than 10% of the population, but they are vocal in voice chat and people don’t usually tell them that they are dumb because of the fear that they will throw.
you can’t cure stupidly. The best you can do is quarantine it. AKA mute and move on. And yes muting someone for being stupid is perfectly legitimate. They might make a bad callout that throws the game.
As you go up into diamond it decreases, but the problem is that players don’t have the same level of knowledge in different roles. you meet diamond dps players who have the healer knowledge of a midgold, but are in upper plat because of their aim.
You also have to realize that players from other shooters with no knowledge of overwatch can come in and hit platinum. my friend has 20 hrs in the game and started plat off of aim alone. So his OW brain is very close to empty. Nothing he does in the game makes any sense, so he may throw a game without intending to at any moment. Meanwhile he can’t drop below 2400 because his aim is way too good.
Your rank is like a Venn diagram of mechanics, positioning, and game sense. If your teammates have awful positioning and game sense, YOU have awful mechanics or you wouldn’t be at the same rank.
And as far as Hog/Sigma being throw picks, Seoul Dynasty and SF Shock are both running that combo in the grand finals. I don’t watch League but it popped up as a suggested video on Youtube so I checked it out and sure enough…
Should have phrased it better, I meant people who find outside sources, like guides, like every game that I go into to, I look up what are the best ways to do so and so or whatever, so I just feel like people(if they want to improve) should just try to find those outside sources.
Trying to be sarcastic with text, talk about intelligent huh.
Point still stands apart from Tracer and Sombra dps have no real survivability. Tanks have either shields or damage reduction on top of a lot of HP and Support have either crazy movent of and self heal of just a ton of self heal with some form of utility.
It is literally easier to be just as good with half the playtime as some dps hero for me at least.
Yes I know but gamesense can be a curse in low ranks. Imagine being the only one on the team noticing one or two flankers and do something about them, worst case they target you and nobody helps. Best case the flanker retreats and targets you for the rest of the game because you pose the biggest threat / are the most annoying. My mechanics aren’t awful or mediocre but also not good enough to take me much higher. Biggest problem is positioning, I am inpatient and hate to do nothing. If it means flanking in 1v6 when my team just camps choke then I will do it.
Maybe you misunderstood but I never said they are and think every Hero is viable yes even “trash” like Sigma and Brig when used correctly.
You gotta understand though that in one individual game you may witness misplays by your teammates that just happen to get punished in THAT game but positioning mistakes can be overcome by superior mechanics. Kill the enemy before they punish you and your positioning doesn’t matter. McCree is a perfect example. Short time to kill but vulnerable if positioning is bad. Especially plat and below, your mechanics are probably bad if you witness teammates positioning or game sense being bad.
