Why is dropping rank a thing?

So, I normally play in the 2900-2700 range…but in the last few days, for who knows why I’m now 2400…and have ended up in gold because I lost 5 games in a row ect, not because I was playing below diamond level…

anyways it just feels really bad to drop in rank because you can clearly see the play difference down here.

Also making dropping more difficult (or more banded tiers) would prevent high level players from dipping down to play with friends or just because

Not sure why dropping rank is a big deal. It’s Overwatch, a fun and casual game decided by coin-toss. Worry less about rank and more about having fun and playing the heroes you enjoy.

Yeah it does feel bad but it does a great job of discouraging deranking. People from diamond and above use to derank all the time to bronze for the lulz of showing a diamond symbol in bronze. Now idk if it happens anymore in bronze but I’m not really noticing any derankers.

You can drop rank because this is a system based on your performance. If you could not drop rank this would not be a competitive system and no rank would have value.

I mean… as you go lower the games will get easier for you and you should rank back up?

On my alt I play at 2600 - 2700 SR. I’ve been in 2400 five times this season and I’ve managed to get back to the 2600 - 2700 SR range every time within just a few games.

As you say, you can clearly see the difference so take advantage of it (but don’t go into a game with arrogance because that will undermine you).

I feel like end of season is just a mess. I was at 2650 and deranked all the way to 2350. It’s not fun at all just loss after loss.

I mean dropping rank isn’t so bad because your mmr is still where you’re supposed to be. My season high is 2400s but I’ll be honest, I belong in the 2200-2300 range. Whenever I go on a losing streak and get close to Silver, I get springed right back up. The mmr knows you’ve been playing badly and gives you a chance to get back up by inflating your sr gains. I literally do anything down at 2000s at 2100s and don’t get anything below +24 sr per win and can usually get back to 2200 ez.

Nope, last time I did it I managed to win 48 games in a row and was still only getting 2sr per win. Once you drop it’s an extreme grind to get back up.

Once you drop ranks, you have to deal with the dreaded gatekeeper matches. Makes you want to quit this game.

Way to necro a 4 month old thread.

I lose 300 sr all the time but the games becomes really easy once that occurs

well, they dropped the concept of showing your highest rank attained instead of your current one, and introduced private profiles to hide the smurfing problem that is plaguing this game

getting destroyed by a bronze player? Too bad you’ll never know he was GM at the start of the season! He’s not a smurf, he just plays a lot of CS:GO and is brand new to Overwatch!
