Why is aiming at Mercy such a issue

Every game a Mercy is flying around in the open and people refuse to aim at her. You think this far into ow2 life people would know she has to die by now. The sheer volume of dps you see who refuse to do something as simple as this is amazing.

well it depends on your rank

in lower ranks its because the players dont have the mechanical skill to even hit them, in higher ranks it depends largely on where the mercy is and if the person thinks they’ll be able to kill them.

They’re too busy pumping the double pocketed tank to boost their damage numbers but still get zero elims

It’s not people refusing to aim at her.
It’s that Blizzard have made her movement so absurdly random, broken and overwhelming that aiming at her is insanely difficult to do for hitscans below high Masters.

Anywhere below that, Mercy is virtually immortal if they know how to move.

People simply can’t hit her, so they stop bothering even trying to hit her. Her mobility is too strong, too versatile and has absolutely no tell.

Her slingshot momentum is stronger than in OW1 and anyone can do it easily in any direction.

Her SJ complaints are more laughable, but the slingshot ones have some merit.

I play a lot of projectile heroes so you better believe shes not my priority target. Although I do take a shot if I know I can take one, you never know when the mercy will get sloppy and make a mistake.

Admittedly she is incredibly flighty, but in most situations, if you can kill a Tracer, you can kill a Mercy. Barring your ability to do that, if you absolutely can not hit her, then kill her heal target. She can’t out-heal everything, so go for crits and her heal target goes down. She has 2 options then, die rezzing her ally or flee to her team.

Because they THINK she’s too hard to kill so they don’t even bother trying

It’s infuriating when I’m the only DPS shooting her and getting her 20 HP every fight and all it would take is ONE other member of my team to tickle her and she would be dead every fight, but instead they all just ignore her the entire game

When I play Mercy I only get shot at probably 20% of the game.

She’s NOT that difficult to kill if you have any modicum of focus fire (aka two people shooting her)

She literally has to stand still for like 23-2.8 seconds now in between those slingshots though, they should shoot her in that downtime. I have to whip out my own glock as Mercy myself to pew pew the enemy Mercy after her superjumps since everyone just ignores her. If I can do it as Mercy then my Soldier and Cass shouldn’t be having problems.

When she got changed in Season 3 to have a 2.5 second CD, which was a 67% nerf to her mobility uptime, the Devs said that after a month her death rate and damage taken rate had no changed at all.

Which goes to show that players just outright don’t even bother shooting at her even when she is marginally easier to kill.

I played with a tracer today who complained about not being able to kill mercy even though she ressed in the middle of the open… I nearly killed that mercy myself but Lucio booped me away. That extra damage from tracer would have secured the kill.

I don’t understand this. Isn’t it much more fun and satisfying to kill squishies?

People don’t even try because her mobility is too much. She is also a less of a direct threat due to lacking any offense abilities.

She isn’t that good at fighting back, which is why she has such mobility.

If you want to tone down mobility in the game, I’m all for that, but I am sure the flanker players will hate that even more.

They have mobility AND lethalness.

It’s hard to aim at Mercy because (take your pick):

  • Mercy also has a hard time aiming at others.
  • Mercy is harmless since she is too cute to be harmful.
  • It’s a you/your teammates’ personal awareness + aim skill issue.

Mercy is just too lovely so my hand just locks and I cant click if she is in front of my crossair, very sorry but it is deep overwatch conditioning.

What? I don’t believe i’ve ever seen a Mercy even hit the ground in Overwatch 2. She is permanently airbound…
Her ā€œattachā€ breaks terrain, corners and all forms of LoS
She has full access to all vertical LoS (Only her and Pharah have this, Echo to a lesser extent)., aswell as horizontal LoS (she still has the same LoS possibilities as every other none flying hero in the game).

She only requires 0.1 seconds of a GA to cancel it and revert back to whatever LoS she was in, whilst getting FULL value of her entire beam, either damage or heal or switching between.

I’d probably say with a Mercy at my ranking is probably ā€œkillableā€ for about 1-2 seconds every 20 seconds. The rest of the time they’re completely unhittable, not down to aim, but down to terrain.

Teammates bad. A tale as old as time.

Aiming at Mercy stirs up a biological version of an inverse triggerbot hack in our brains, momentarily disabling our ability to shoot her when the crosshair is over her, thanks to all that conditioning, yasss…

I’m tired of this ā€œit depends on the rankā€ BS. Shoot the Mercy, even if you just are forcing her to relocate and you can’t kill her, take it. Do something. Mercy can only use team mates to position and under pressure people make mistakes, if Mercy has 0 pressure, she will make less mistakes and harder to kill. You also will never kill anything if you never try. Practice killing Mercy. Start by just trying to pressure her. Pressure her to get her to leave her team mate and then try and kill the team mate that is now isolated. Countering heroes isn’t just about killing them, if you can’t kill her at least make her game hard.

  • A Mercy main who has literally stood still beaming my team mate while a single enemy dps tries to fight him, completely ignoring my existence, enemy dies and then flames my dps for being pocketed. Like ? lol ?

Oh so you haven’t played the recent patches where her GA cooldown got increased. She plays more corners and around terrain more now than the use of her micro-movements

a straight line.

and if she jumps?
she has a 3sec cd of floating/falling.

so tell me again how it has no tell?
