Why is a name change so expensive?

I am unable to afford a name change and its been almost unbearable to play with the harassment in competitive because of it, and even all the other game modes. If someone reports me for bad battletag would I be able to change it? I see a lot of people do that but, I am unsure.

You’d need to pay after the first change anyway, you would not be able to play until you pay for a name change

And don’t mind me here but isn’t every name change expensive?

Xbox is expensive af IMO (that or it’s a Colombia thing)

My current name is a result of my previous name being reported
I didn’t have to pay

Though I believe that was my first ever name change
I had changed it before in WoW

Ahhh, did you choose that name? And what was your previous one? Ive decided to just hold out until I can afford a name change cuz I dont want to risk getting reported for bad battletag anymore because i dont want my account banned

Maybe I’m missing something obvious, but why are people reporting your tag? I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Basically its also a name of a popular influencer on instagram and people get mad over it, i also tried seeing if people reporting my battletag would let me change it but alas i dont want to risk it (might get an autogenerated name or banned)

Oooh, I see.

Well, this sort of thing has come up a fair few times and always seems to go the way of Baja’s experience. Blizzard isn’t going to ban to over a name and should let you change it for free if it comes to that.

10 bucks for a gamertag change here in the (previously) good ol’ US of A. However, in my experience, if you change your gamertag for the first time after the gamertag change (Where you’d be forced to have one of <12 characters for first signing up), you get to change it for free.

i used both of my free name change in both my accounts.
i still don’t know what to feel about this account name, and am not sure if i should switch this account batteltag for a third time.

yes, you will able to switch your batteltag if someone report you for that, it will be changed to “player” and you will get a free battletag switch

i see a lot of people everywhere asking people to report them so they can get a free batteltag switch.

am not sure too about if people even report you when you say that, but i have seen people who hate this move and will report you for something else if you do that, but there is not so many of them, so go ahead if you want to.

TBH I somewhat understand charging for name changes - I’m imagining their intention here is to make it so people dont friend someone then make a bunch of changes back to back, and then people dont know who anyone is anymore.

However, I also think what they should do is provide a free name change after a certain period of time (e.g. maybe once every 3-6 months). This way it kind of solves that problem (or the abuse of it) without such an outrageous cost.

Cause they know im a cheapskate who won’t pay to buy BabaYaga as name tag and one trick reaper in a smurf.

I wanna know too why you have to pay for name changes

When nearly every other game clients let you change your name for free an unlimited amount of times
It’s no surprise Steam is the dominating game client when it literally lets you do so much more with no additional cost.

If they make you change your name, it is free.

You can just start a new account for free, Microsoft encourages you to make as many as you want

I can’t play my games tho

Yes you can

You keep your games

i wish they’d offer a free name change every 2 years or something and reduce the price to 5-8$.
