Why I'm thinking of quiting overwatch

This is a rant so if you dont want to read it all read like the last 8 or so lines before you comment because that’s the important part.

I have decided to quit overwatch and many people have done so as well. I feel like Blizzard just doesn’t know how character balancing works anymore. It seems every patch they buff another dps making them no skill high reward heroes. I honestly respect skilled widow players, since the damage they can do only reflects how good of a player they are.

But heroes like junkrat and hanzo are way too effective for their skill requirement. Junkrat requires almost no mechanical skill or aim since he can just spam the general area of the enemy team and get kills left and right. His 120 damage, splash damage, timer detonation or on player impact balls weren’t bad enough, they decided to give him a SECOND throwable mine that he can detonate at any time that do 120 damage a piece. This means that a junkrat can have the aim of a blind 2 year old and still out damage a competent widowmaker at a FRACTION of the skill.

Now Hanzo isn’t much better and don’t get me started on brigitte. Brigitte got the best parts of every hero class without ANY of the downsides and Blizzard decided that was a good idea. Lately it seems like Overwatch is focusing on adding heroes that require little skill or making current heroes require no skill without reducing their effectiveness appropriately. More skill should mean more effectiveness but not anymore.

I don’t know if blizzard thinks overwatch’s player base is entirely 7 year olds but what happened to skill? The last 3 heroes that Blizzard has added to Overwatch are so OP that any person with little to no skill or experience can pick up and carry with without any trouble, (and i’ve done it with all three).

Junkrat has always been super powerful but got a buff anyway, and Hanzo has become a must pick for any team. With all the DPS buffs and the addition of Brigitte, (who might as well be a DPS), there seems to be no place for tanks anymore. Roadhog gets stunned a million times a second and hit with hanzo’s ban hammer of an “e” attack. Rein has like 15 counters and orisa is a sitting duck to the plethora of DPS waiting for her, since the average comp now is 5 dps and a healer or 4 DPS and 2 healers including a Brigitte.

What’s even the point of playing anymore? 90% of the player base mains dps, and the other people are left to die to the broken cast of what used to be balanced DPS, while tank mains sit in limbo and weep, (Excluding Zarya mains and sometimes winston mains since they can brawl very effectively).

I just don’t know, I love this game so much but get so mad at it lately. I feel like I’m missing something if i don’t play it, but I regret playing it when I do. Is anyone else feeling like hero balancing is an issue? Season 10 is just a meme at this point and everybody is aware of this. Maybe im just bad at the game but i’d like someone else’s opinion.

Okay, good luck on all your future endeavors.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t read your entire post.

But if you’re done with Overwatch, by all means take your leave. It doesn’t have to be a huge production. Enjoy your other past times and games. Overwatch will still be around if you wish to return.

I gotta be honest,I tried reading this but it was just one long winded rant with no spacing. But yes I agree Blizzard sucks at character Balance. After all they are still reworking some of their hero’s that launched with the game 2 years ago.

Never mind the fact many of their reworks are blatantly broken that no one noticed during “internal testing”.

That’s quite the wall of text, a couple of line breaks would help.

In the end, whatever reason you’re thinking of quiting for then, OK.

When I felt that way I took almost two months off and did other things. I play again, but a lot less than compared to before.

I appreciate the kindness but i’d really appreciate if you’d at least read the last 8 or so lines because that’s the not rant part

im too good at hog to quit im just gonna wait until he becomes better

Sigh…

Every patch they buff another dps. Funny you should say that. Given the fact that the reason hanzo’s the only viable dps at the moment is because of the supports. No one DIES, when you’re a tracer, genji, soldier or even junkrat. The healing and sustain is just too much for any hero to be capable of dealing enough damage.

That’s why one shot abilities are now the meta. Hanzo, widow, really good doomfists.

So if you want to blame something, you can start blaming the actual responsible heroes. Mainly mercy, brigitte.

I do blame brigitte in this post and mercy is hard to blame since shes so easy to kill

Sad to see you go like this, stranger.

Still, unless you know where you’re going next, I can give you recommendations.

Honestly if the competitive aspects of the game are problematic to you than don’t make the game competitive.

I knew from the start Competitive was not going to be a happy experience for me so I don’t play it and never have.

If you started to take the game less seriously and just enjoy fast matches in quick play where the stress of winning isn’t important you may find that a better alternative than to leave the game.

I think that they are only reworking symmetra because of the recently released heroes, (as in the last 3 or 4 heroes). Symmetra started out pretty darn balanced but the failure to figure out how to balance the latest additions to the cast has left symmetra in a limbo, forcing a rework as the easiest solution.

  • Take a break
  • Mix games; Anniversary is coming
  • Bullet points does wonders

I really don’t play much comp and haven’t in a while. I’m honestly getting mad in any game mode because people just abuse broken heroes. Playing a quick match and facing a team of 5 dps and a brigitte while your team is a well thought out counter comp and still getting rolled by the same 5 or 6 heroes is just frustrating.

Then I hate to say the problem is more internally with you than the game. If you have a hard time not getting mad in Quick Play where nothing really matters then I would have to suggest trying to work on playing games without getting mad.

If you base balance around “skill” (lets be honest here, you ONLY MEAN AIM) then what happens is people will be obligated to use only the strongest hero no matter what their skill is… or be flammed and false reported.

You are under the impression that this is a pure FPS. It’s not. It can’t be balanced as a pure FPS where aim is the only thing that really matters.

Making a hero weak just because you perceive them as “skilless” (again, you only mean one skill; aim) is bad for this kind of game. It will worsen the already bad elitism and reduce the acceptable hero pool.

I don’t know where i’m going and i feel like garbage for leaving. Like i said, this is a game i love and it hurts me to see 2 years of memories become a source of frustration for me.

You can take a break from it too, no need to be so melodramatic about it…

Believe me, melodrama is my job.

Still, I understand where you’re coming from, I’ve considered leaving this game many times in the past. But really, my solution is just play some other games until it feels fresh to me again.

So I wanted to see if that’s the case for anyone else.

No I don’t only mean aim i just thought of that first during my rant. What I’m saying is heroes should only be as good as you are so this game becomes a winner of skill with heroes. But right now there are heroes that can dominate without much skill at all even if the opponent is much more skilled then them. some heroes are just inherently better on an even skilled field and that shouldn’t be in a game like overwatch.

A game that’s oppressive and slow on keeping the meta fresh. Do what I do. Just play less and communicate on the forum. There’s nothing good coming from this game besides goofing around for some matches. If you play too long expect reports and avoid teammate messages coming your way and possibly a ban.
