Her simplicity provides way too much easy and highly consistent value for very little effort. Period.
“But it’s supposed to be hard to deal with a pocket because it’s a 2v1”
Mercy quite literally requires little effort to be efficient, she just straight up continuously heal for 55hps without interruption as long as the target is within her range and not hit with anti-heal with ONE button press.
Meanwhile the other supports has a caveat with their healing, whether it be low hps as compensation for utility or it needs aiming and has an ammo count.
Simply put, her healing has no downtime.
Here’s why I don’t think this argument is fair, if we’re going by teamwork Mercy requires very little effort to be 100% efficient as stated above, all she needs is to hold M1 and that’s it, the 2v1 is at full capacity. Now if you are to take a look at a 2v1 support pairing, the other supports needs to put in more effort for what is presumably <=100% efficiency.
It will be considerably harder a 2v1 against a Mercy pocket than it is to fight a 2v1 against literally everybody else.
How so? Take Ana and Bap for example, their healing needs aiming and they’re not exactly the most mobile support. Another example is Moira, her healing is on a resource so she can’t spray her healing ad infinitum.
The Mercy Problem
IMO Mercy is fine, it’s just that the way she’s designed, she’s sort of like the baseline hero the devs need to account for due to her pocketing prowess. Pocketing in and of itself isn’t a problem as any support who chooses to prioritize one of their teammates is essentially still pocketing, but Mercy empowers the pocket way too much that she holds some heroes hostage in how they can be balanced.
Personally, I think Mercy is a great hero to familiarize yourself with the game and in the support role but she also limits how creative the devs can be with new hero designs, I’m pretty sure that another flight based hero is going to be quite the hurdle to balance when Mercy’s interaction with Pharah is already quite a complicated discussion.
tl;dr Mercy turns some heroes into monsters and makes weak heroes serviceable. Mercy is the warden of Overwatch Balance Jail.

I’m sorry but no, before those DPS existed, Mercy already existed long before, the design problem is with those DPS, not with her.

Which DPS and could you elaborate?
maybe in your elo where everyone just ignores things that they should probably be making an effort to kill, but nah, not the case in higher ranks. if you don’t have the best positioning & game sense on your team as Mercy, you’ve essentially already lost. positioning & game sense are so underestimated by a lot of people in this community due to not being able to understand in depth what it truly takes to play at the top vs at the bottom. I promise that the Mercy’s you’re getting in your game where they’re quite literally doing little to nothing ISN’T how Mercy is being played in Masters, GM & Top500.

Nah, those heroes were already monsters with their inflated numbers, damage boost just broke that scale even more. The Ashe nerfs were reasonable because even without a pocket she was incredibly strong thus resulting in her being TOO strong when the pocket came. Also, a way to fix Pharah is to lower her flight time in exchange for power in other areas of her kit. Problem solved.
side note: a thread similar to this topic already exists, and was created a few days ago. creating another thread about the same topic is against forum rules.

Mercy’s main issue is she is boring to play not her kit. Her kit is what you’d expect from a support. Heals and two utility spells. The change to her super jump is a step in the right direction to increase her skill cap, but they still need to figure out how to do it so it’s not clunky.
Ana has higher healing range, a backup healing grenade, and a back up back up take them back to full health ult. Baptiste’s is pretty easy to aim outside of flying heroes and he also has backup plan tools. I’d argue that either of these heroes would be a much more annoying pocket than mercy, you just don’t see them doing it as much pocketing is an ineffective scrub tactic and mercy attracts a lot of low skill players

Blue Beam, like Discord and AntiNade will always be a problem–and will less CC, shields, and peel in OW2, those abilities will be even stronger.
They all need reworking, adjusting, nerfing or removing imo. Fun can be replaced with different fun. Maybe DR instead of Damage Boost.
Zen can do the same thing except he can click on both heroes to damage boost + heal at the same time. So can Moira with damage orb, ana with nade. Lucio just has to sit next to you and now it’s technically a 2v1.
The thing is these heroes make better characters to 2v1 with than mercy because they can actually shoot the thing alongside you, whereas Mercy is entirely dependent on the person she’s attached to to hit their shots (and not let her die in the 2v1, since the only thing she can do is run away or swap glock if she decides you’re not worth saving)

not to me and those who actually play her…? she’s popular and played a lot for a reason and it’s not because she’s boring to play lmfao

Sadly that isnt the case for console mercy even dominates gm over here
yeah except unlike discord & nade, blue beam is Mercy’s MAIN form of damage. it’s quite literally how she makes up for her lack of DPS whereas Zen can discord but can also reap the benefits by being able to damage on top of that & same with Ana. she can nade & reap the benefit of that nade by dealing 70 dps (hitscan as well might I add).

funny because I’m on my PS5 right now looking through the leaderboards for Top500 comp (which starts at 3081SR btw) and all I see are Baptiste’s and Ana’s completely dominating
I made this thread so I could condense my thoughts from the previous thread as that thread very quickly devolved into arguments against each other and often times strayed away from the discussion.
For the 1 millionth time the only thing i find absolutely bs about mercy is her ability to rez behind walls that just takes her weekness away from the powerfull rez ability thats the only thing i want removed personally.even in exchange for some buffs if it makes her to weak
bye, you dont see baptiste being a sitting duck when he throws down lamp
that is such a terrible suggestion/change lmao it wouldnt be worth it at ALL to even TRY to rez (especially when a fight is going down) as you’d literally just get picked off instantly since we wouldnt be able to use cover anymore & bam, there’s a lost game.

In ow1 terms not really like alot of mercys ask for resources like a sheild and cover for the rez ow2 yea thats a different story .they could probably decrease the time to rez
starting a rez, and then staying within range and finishing it off behind a wall is using natural cover. i’m FAIRLY using what is being provided to me by the map environment to keep myself as safe as I can be while I turn into a statue while leaving my team defenseless for 1.75 seconds.
