Why I miss old Mercy and Symmetra

This is my own personal opinion but I still really miss old Symmetra and Mercy because as a support main, one of my favorite things to do is “save the day.” I miss when I could let my whole team die and fly in out of nowhere and resurrect everyone. I miss when I could let my whole team die, only for them all to respawn and use my hidden teleporter and win the ensuing fight. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I’d rather fight with my team and help them win the fight actively.

IMO, the current version of Mercy is the best version of Mercy

It certainly brought more variety to the table

People didn’t like variety I guess

Mercy’s who hid and res were really just feeding the enemy team 5 players worth of ult charge. If you knew mercy wasnt there you just wouldnt use ultimates and then have extra for res.

Symmetra helped her team via flanking and killing enemy healers. Even though a good bit of her kit was idol that didnt mean she wasnt activly participating

You know I just realized I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in a non mercy thread

the only one I distinctly remember was that moira rework thread

I think I like new Sym more just because shes more versatile and I think shes pretty good now.

Old Mercy I think would be great with some tweaks. I think her ult lacked counter play and I think it’d be nice if they tweaked it. Also added the Bunny Hop to her kit with her. Idk I think if it had some needed tweaks it would be fine but not exactly how it used to be cause I think it was unhealthy.

you will also see me in reporting rules threads fairly often, tho those dont come up quite as often

of late, I have also been participating in 2-2-2 threads, as I prefer freedom over being forced, particularly in a leisure game

Oh yeah you’re in those too

You just love being the controversial one~

I don’t see my stances as controversial, just as…sensible…in contrast to being ok with violating reporting rules on whims and forcing unwanted restrictions on all players

I miss the old Mercy and Symmetra too, but they can the old resurrect mechanic as stacks every 30 seconds she can res more heroes. Mercy just needs the right tweaks, but that’s hard to accomplish with the current developer crew. They don’t know how to do proper tweaks.

Symmetra while her 3.0 makes her somewhat flexible. She lost her engaging potential making her rely on turrets and right click more than left click. Left click used to be the executioner setting, but now it’s the teleport turret combo. She can’t go in solo without the group where her old self can somewhat hold her own weight though she lacked survivability and still does. However her autolock made up for survivability a bit.

I loved Sym’s old teleporter, it was awesome.

how does your own cake taste like?

I didn’t really care for old Symmetra too much… I definitely think that she has improved a lot, though I sympathize with stuff like people being frustrated over the loss of Projectile Barrier and piercing orbs, because these were pretty nice parts of her kit that just got scrapped to make room for E Tele. I think people get overly hung up on the removal of her autolock, but frankly, I think that’s worked out largely in her favor since her DPS potential has been buffed pretty remarkably, and at close range, it’s not hard to aim it unless you’re talking Genji or something. She’s such a low-profile character, though, with relatively little impact on the game that it’s hard for me to really appreciate her changes being a big deal.

Mercy, on the other hand, I do miss in her pre-rework state. For as much as people griped about Hide n Rez, tactics such as that discouraged Ult spam, which really has become a problem in the past year or so because of the lack of abilities that adequately punish it (you can also attribute some of the problem to the disappearance of Sym’s old Tele). The game was in a place where the unhealthiest mechanic realistically was Hide n Rez, which… if that’s the worst thing, then you’re doing really great TBH. But, of course, Blizzard being Blizzard, they implemented the Rube Goldberg approach to solving that issue and, instead of implementing very sensible and easy fixes to deal with that problem, created this monstrous rework that did a lot of damage to the game and continued to be a massive problem for a year, until Blizzard sort of got it under control… by creating the circumstances allowing GOATS to become meta. Yahoo, right? People can gripe about Hide n Rez, but frankly, it’s a myopic viewpoint that disregards the overall healthier place the game was in when Mass Rez was around.

I miss old Sym’s photon barrier, but that’s about it. And it was worth losing it to get rid of “I get the feeling they have a shieeeeeeeeld generator!”

Don’t really miss old Mercy much.

Miss both Sym 2.0 and Mercy 1.0.
Currently, I still main 3.0, however for Mercy, I dont give a sh!t about her. She is way too unengaging for me and I think she could use another rework.

This is why she was changed…

Honestly I miss Mercy’s mass rez too. Though I don’t think it was healthy for the game at all. I think they should make it an option in custom games to have Mercy’s mass rez back

Actually, I do kinda miss insta-rez during Valk. I miss the swoop life.

But the “fly into the middle of the enemy team, and Rez in slow motion for 2 seconds while spamming hello at them” life has been just as satisfying, if not more so.

Being honest here, almost all Sym mains I met in reddit miss pretty much every other aspect of her kit above the autolock. Shield Gen, barrier and piercing orbs are consistently the top three most missed features, and 6-turret stash is on par with autolock.

But you know which group of people do miss the autolock? Disabled players. And it’s a bad move to make your game less accessible because of the desire to balance a (allegedly) weak hero.

If your game have an accessible hero, leave them there. If that hero need adjustments, then don’t ignore the disabled players that fluctuate around this hero.

Symmetra changed from being the least precision-dependent hero (which goes beyond aim) to require snap and precise movements for everything in her kit. Placing a wall or TP under stress when you can’t control your own muscle spams is simply impossible to do. Placing a Teleporter that is only placed 2 meters in front of you is not a problem. Throwing a turret that loves to attach into any edge if you slightly misplace them is definitely harder than only being able to place then if you are in range of the wall. Throwing balls through a choke for zoning purposes is much easier than having to track and predict enemy movement as a normal projectile hero.

Autolock is missed because it made the game less accessible. But regarding Sym mains, it’s very down in the rage list issues. But it’s still there.
