Why I Have Yet to Not Despise Mercy's Current State (Part 2)

nothing?

not at all

it is imo one of the most powerful and arguably the very most versatile ults in the game

given all of is severe limitations, no, it is a very risky cooldown

not remotely as good as an ultimate

this would be admitting that it does do something, as opposed to nothing

A team that has mercy will have no immo abilities though or at max 1

Hey, you get toā€¦ fly! and heal for 5 points more! wow!

Meanwhile juno gets to heal (for more) + damage boost + use both effects herself

The only thing Valk has going for it is that it isnā€™t interruptible and that it lasts long. But youā€™re still cannibalising your co-supportā€™s ult (likely a much better one) by building it.

Thats true, but sustain has been power crept outside of just immos too.

I see the OG thread was necroed. Maybe thats why this one was made

The old thread reached the cap of 5000 replies. So automatic a new one got created.

This topic was automatically closed after reaching the maximum limit of 5000 replies. Continue discussion at Why I Have Yet to Not Despise Mercyā€™s Current State (Part 2).

nothing of the sort is occurring

Valkyrie is actually a very powerful and very versatile ult that does many things

It absolutely does not do nothing

I suggest you watch some videos on how to best play Mercy in order to learn about it

Mass rez should come back, but it never will. So sad.

There is no place for mass Rez in this game. I never want it in this game again-it was literal ebola.

I used to be a Mercy main until 5 man rez came into the game and noped out. It created braindead strats and slamming my nuts in a car door gave me more pleasure than playing the game in that period. It was a literal no skill strat and completely devoid of any fun in the gameplay.

If it came back I can assure you the brown stuff will hit the fan, and the toxicity to Mercy players will be off the charts.

Keep mass rez where it belongs. In hell.

Itā€™s hilarious that itā€™s 2025 and Mercy-rework mega threads are still the only things that hit the post limit.

Itā€™s literally the worst thing Blizzard ever did with the Overwatch IP in terms of player backlash. PVE cancellation? 5v5? Brig? All of it pales in comparison.

Prediction: the upcoming ā€œClassicā€ event will also be far less popular than the last one. People will speculate about why but the real reason is because the first one had OG Mercy.

Kinda funny Marvel Rivals proved a mass rez can be balanced by simply making it a windup, as many, many have suggested.

Guess that was too hard for them to implement?

Almost as if having reliable, ā€œno skillā€ support, that allows rest of the team to pick literally anything, is desired thing, rather than something to avoid.

As if opinions of ā€œcannon fodderā€ matter to one, who holds lives of entire team in her hands. Competent players, that donā€™t require many resurrects, will appreciate having a lot of decoys in form of their allies, who can serve their purpose more, than once per respawn timer.

Honestly, seeing my one idea about Rez not bringing people back at full health that got shot down by friends of mine at the time (that are no longer my friends) end up working in that new hero shooter actually made me feel justified in my takes and fully convinced that the devs have no idea how to balance this game. Maybe thatā€™ll change soon, but so long as rez can be a reactionary ability and not have some forethought involved or be almost unpunishable with the right comp, Iā€™m definitely just gonna keep playing that new hero shooter until they wisen up.

Also this feels more like a ā€˜the devs arenā€™t fully aware of how powerful it actually isā€™ than a good mechanic to whatabout with.

It works perfecly in Rivals, since Adam Warlock can cast the rezz somewhere safe and walk to their allies corpses to revive htem + he has a self rezz in case everyone dies to a teamwipe + 3 ways of keeping everyone to full health after the rezz (since they respawn with only 100 hp)

Im sure the devs can find a way to make it work again in OW2 if they really want to (they dont)

They are aware, they just prefer it over mass resurrect. Otherwise they wouldnā€™t be pushing Ana to the top every chance they got.

Same reason itā€™s near permanent hitscan meta, as every time projectile hero shows any relevance, they get destroyed.

Canā€™t wait to see how another Hero shooter will handle the concept of anti heal, or if itā€™ll even be introduced.

Kind of fitting that itā€™s a Mercy thread that did it. :joy:

It wasnā€™t always 5k limit, as Silawatsi mentioned above. Itā€™s possible that the 5k limit was implemented recently when the thread already had 14k replies/posts and got automatically closed when the last reply triggered the threshold check.

Hopefully that concept will never be recreated - effectively disabling entire role with one ability is bad design. It can effectively alienate support role, because players canā€™t rely on them, when they suddenly can be cut off from healing.

Mercyā€™s old rez ult used to be very punishable, especially before it was over-buffed.

For most of multirezā€™s existence, large-scale rezzes often required Mercy to trade her life due to how it goaded the other team into killing Mercy in retaliation. The sacrifice was only sometimes worth itā€¦ The rest of the time, resurrecting players into a disadvantageous scenario where their main healer is already dead just set them up to die again. That tradeoff alone did a lot to regulate the power of huge rezzes and disincentivize trolling.

Even after the devs overbuffed Mercy to be invulnerable during/after her ult, multirez was still highly punishable because of how it gave the other team a free setup for a second wipe: until the ā€œrez glowā€ wears off, freshly-revived players canā€™t fight or flee while waiting to regain full control of their characters. If a Mercy player got too greedy and waited for a Huge Rez when they didnā€™t need to, it basically gave the opposing team a free shot to set up their teamwipe ultimate(s) and kill everybody a second time.

Having those punish windows gave Mercy a surprisingly high skill ceiling. It even pushed Mercyā€™s skill floor up in higher elos, turning her into a sort of ā€˜gamesense skillcheckā€™ for both her players and her opponents.

I really miss that version of Overwatchā€¦
