Why I hated open queue

I played few classic quickplay games yesterday which reminded me how bad old queue system was.

I just looked at teams and hero picks and i could leave instantly because I knew outcome. Enemy team having two snipers and double shield. We had 5 dps and support. It was totaly unwinnable game. It wasnt games about skill, it was game about player choices resulting in lost match even when we would be more skilled. This is what i hated about old comp system. Losing games because of roles picked or not picked. It was honestly so frustrating to play games like this knowing you will not win. I did like the freedom in old system but that freedom was creating unwinnable games way too often. I just wanted to share this

Shorten it to heroes picked or not picked and the same problem still exists, just not in as extreme a form. In a way yes role queue is better for solo queue players but when it comes to people who are flexible who want to queue as a group of anywhere from 3-6 they have a lot to gain from an open system and will usually have more fun.

Well of course you can have bad team comp even now, but even wrong role picks are way better than playing without certain roles.

Even most terrible tank combo can provide chance to have longer fights with their health pool or creating space. Opportunity to have a pick. And even most terrible support combo can provide some heals or good support ult. You have nothing lie this as 4-6 dps heroes.

I’d argue though that role queue makes it even worse when you have bad picks on your team because your opponent is less likely to also have horrible picks on their team when compared to open queue. Yes the chances are equal for both teams in either version but you don’t really have the moments of “well we have two off tanks and Zen Lucio for supports but they have 5dps and a Mercy”.

My takeaway is still that groups/friends who are all/mostly flex players will enjoy open queue more than role queue since they can stretch their ability to flex more than the alternative. While when going in solo, role queue will still be better.

Good thing we will now have both

You have both systems to enjoy.you can avoid it and play role que

I will probably play it occasionaly just for lols

I just wanted to share what i think about that game mode. I know i have a choice.

personally i dont like to play open que,it reminds me how hard old days comp when 6 dps and no one picking a heal.but some time it is really enjoyable in someways

That still happens. There are inferior 222 comps… it is not like 222 magically makes both comps equal. Lul.

But you always have tanks and support.

Okay? But we still have the same problem of knowing the outcome before the game starts because people do not pick specific heroes. It is literally the same issue.

Not really, open queue had a lot worse hero combinations than current role q can have.
