Because both lead designers are from the World of Warcraft team, and so they are designed like dungeons rather than PvP arenas.
Which is mostly fine, if it was a dungeon crawlers game, but it is not.
New maps are just either too big or too open, or both.
Hanamura was not a good map, it was aesthetically beautiful but it suffered from the assault game mode being sit at choke simulator. The Runasapi is a good map and that released last season, a perfect example of how a push map should be designed and shows that the mode is pretty good when the map isn’t bad.
Ignoring the problems with 2CP maps, at least they all looked good. Even Paris looked better than the void maps we’ve been getting in OW2, and I loathe that map to bits.
I really miss OW1 map design. They were simplistic yet iconic.
Hanamura?
Good map?
???
Who remembers when Hanamura only had one advance point? Lol.
I feel like I was around for a rework, but it’s so long ago now I barely remember lol.
Kings Row is still there, I played it today.
Newest non-Clash map, Runasapi, is pretty good.
the only reason Hanamura isn’t remembered as the worst map of all time is that Paris exists.
You know that the OG OW team was also a WoW team right.
Blaming this on the ‘‘muh evul MOBA MMO RPG idiots’’ is just idiotic.
Temple of Anubis was almost identical to Paris in how its first choke is designed
Temple of Anubis had way better cover for flanking Attackers on point A.\
Both Paris and HLC had the same major issue - Defenders on Point A had one amazing high-ground position which covered every single avenue of attack. At least you could teleport past it on HLC.
No lead nerds is from hots card game.
Only Aaron is from wow but he is excellent map creator responsible for the og good ones , i doubt he is involved nowadays to make maps .
Its the best, 2cp as a mode suffered a bit but this was a great man and have plenty of fantastic memories.
I like Esperanza a bit more than runasapi but it’s done well too
Parasio is excellent as well
Shambali and midtown were close to good if they do a few fixes.
Shambali is basically circuit second point fixed version.
And that’s why we got maps like Lunar and Paris.
Esperanza and Runasapi are both good tbh, they were designed with what Blizzard learned about push as a mode. Colosseo plays a lot better now too after they remove the glass and changed some parts of the map up. Now hopefully they make some changes to new queen street because I hate that map.
Agree with your take on Shambali, it’s just a better circuit. Mid town is also good and is one of my favorite hybrid maps, when people actually know how to position on it the map plays well. Parasio is fun because I love running dive on attack, always a blast to play on.
Samoa is also great, it feels like a classic control map and that’s very good, kind of reminds me of Oasis which is a good control map.
Antarctica always plays bad no matter what, clash maps are well designed but the mode itself needs a lot of changes, and Flashpoint will probably get it’s “Runasapi”, I cannot wait to see that tbh since it’ll be team 4 applying everything they learned about flashpoints.
