This is part 1 of a series where i’ll be discussing new heroes and their impacts on the game. Im obviously not using chronological order, and i think today is a great day to discuss hamsters and the demolition equipment they pilot.
Like Winston, Hammond’s role is between off-tank and main tank. This gives Ham players some flexibility compared to rigid pairings like Rein+Zarya. You can pick him to counter some dastardly snipers or lead a dive, and speaking of diving:
Hammonds spreads dive to the lower ranks. Its taking a while, but Hammond’s method of diving is so telegraphed to teammates that it encourages follow through in a way Winston doesn’t. Hambone also works with Winston AND D.va, making it easier to set up a dive comp in general, but especially at lower ranks.
Another thing thats great about Hanmond: his counters. Reaper, Mei, Bastion; traditionally troll pick heroes are made more relevant by Green Eggs and Ham’s inclusion into the game.
Hammond is also an important part of quad dps, a comp long pioneered by the player base but lacking in competitive results. Well now Hammond and Mercy can make it work, giving players an answer to the age old question:
“What are we supposed to do with 4 dps?”
Now its a legitimate comp thanks to Hammond.
Now, im sure i missed a bunch of stuff, so make sure to describe your experiences with Hammond too, and how you think Hammond is shaping the game.

Unpopular opinion: I legitimately hate Hammond.
He’s basically a better Doomfist, with a tank’s health, good mobility, and no crit spot. As much CC there is in the game, this walking ball of CC was an unwelcome addition.

i think wrecking ball gameplay wise is a great addition to the game, still hate that hamster though that thing needs to die and get turned into a burger
How so? The fluctuating state of Doomfist has left me very ignorant on how he plays now, but i don’t really see Hammonds “combo” except for maybe pile driver but thats really telegraphed.
Shotguns for the win.
Another reason to love Hammond, weak vs shotties.
Hammond is absolutely the most creative hero we have gotten since launch. He is a disruption main tank, and is the only tank in the game that doesn’t have a rigid partner they work best with (Rein+Zar, D.Va+Wins,Orisa+Hog).
Blizzard has really struggled to find a base that Reinhardt didn’t cover for a new tank, and they found it with Hammond.
I forgot to mention the fact that he has such a crazy unique playstyle.
I absolutely can’t stand playing Reinhardt so he is more than welcome from me.
I enjoyed your insights rocktopus, I think ham-ham is awesome too.
At least he can’t one shot you

I love hammond, loved doing work with him when he was considered a bad pick and still enjoy proving people wrong with him continuously. 1 thing i despise about playing him is when i do good and an enemy switches to sombra which makes me have to either switch up the way im playing in a big way or switch off. hack is too OP

His main counter, who played decently can completely shut him down, is Sombra.
Ooh I remember when Nevermore did something like this on the old forums. Would be nice to see a format like that return!
Seriously, I wish I was able to play Hammond effectively without feeding. He’s an absolute ball to play!
Isn’t his little peanut head the crit spot?
I think he’s fun to play and one of the easiest heroes to counter in the game.

Dear Blizzard,
Nerf Rock. Paper’s fine though.
Love,
Scissors.
Seriously though! Hammond is so much fun to play! His counters really hurt and shut him down super hard when played well though.

I love him so much. Also, you get to pile drive thez nuts on people as well. Perfect Good Friday special.
More along the lines of…
Dear Blizzard,
Hack lasts too long and takes zero skill
Love,
Aggressive Hammond tryna have fun
There is plenty of counters without an invisible sombra rendering you useless with the press of a button. Hammond is in no way OP as he is
She has one of the lowest winrates in the entire game. Hack absolutely takes skill.
Thats because she requires teamwork and communication to get wins. Not because her kit is weak lol. Hack is boring and doesnt take skill, it would take skill if u didnt have perma invisible to position maybe
