When the “competitive matchmaking” is gonna be this bad.
Should’ve been 2-2-2 with the Blitz in mind alhonesty. Also, better matchmaking too but that’s never going to happen.
I dunno, looks like pretty standard competitive matchmaking to me.
Just…one day…no complaining…just one…please
Why don’t you just not log onto the forums then? It’s a legitimate complaint that I was matched against a 3 stack with a player who is actually ranked 430 in CTF when I haven’t even finished placement and would never be that good anyway.
it is midnight…just…is it too much to ask to just post this tomorrow morning?
In a TZ no one cares about. It’s gonna be morning for someone somewhere on the forums.
Frankly, yes it is.
Anyway, back on topic. This match felt like playing a raid boss. I was pretty proud that my team had enough synergy to get 2 flags even going against these folks. But there was a very clear skill difference that wasn’t welcome in a comp version of the game. If I had wanted an anything goes kind of match, i would have queued Blitz.
Has anyone else experienced this at all?
I don’t understand why they feel the need to push a competitive version of every new gamemode they add to the arcade. As is, they aren’t going to get enough traction and because of that, it leads to unbalance.
Several comedically wrong assumptions in this thread:
- That matchmaking does not completely fail for team sizes greater than one.
- That CTF works in Overwatch. Even the game they’ve ripped off, CTF is by far the worst mode.
- That Competitive is.
There just isn’t enough people playing competitive CTF. Meanwhile a couple of years ago or even a year ago I got much faster and better balanced games.
The playerbase is just dwindling.
I see unbalanced lobbies like this all the time!
Plats smuggling silvers is nothing new, but putting 6 solos with ok winrate against a 3-3 is just terrible matchmaking.
Comp matchmaking cant do anything against those who carry a player 2 ranks below. Its on Blizzards end. For matching stacks against solo q-ers? That happens on regular comp as well.
No matter how you look at it, one 3 stack should have been on the other team. It is just unacceptable to place two 3 stacks against solos. One of them could have waited in queue while this match was made if they really wanted a 3 stack against 6 solos.
I think competitive in any other scenario isn’t really a fair matchmaking. It’s more of just get in have fun and if you win you get Sr and points if you lose well it’s fine
My experience was somewhat different. At least you…got into…some. games.
My comp CTF S2 didn’t go so well because I didn’t have gitgud.exe and I ended something like 800sr.
This comp CTF S3 I was seeded - you guessed it - right back where I left off over a year ago? I won 4/5 placements including facing off and beating T500 players (screenshots to prove).
Ok so I won against gitguds and placed 700sr?
Queue times for this extremely popular game mode were 45+ mins on average, 22 minutes at best ever (also screenshotted).
It just didn’t even let me play.
They need to offer an actual reset before they call it a ladder.
In normal competitive. I haven’t even finished my placement matches because Top500/GM are far too toxic towards masters.
Why mislead people like this? Top500 in CTF is barely diamond.
Agreed. Yearly “competitive” arcade game modes NEED this sort of reset, hard or soft.
Not only because the initial placement is influenced by your traditional competitive SR (GMs get put in arcade GM, plats get put in plat, silvers/golds get put into silver and gold, Diamonds are put in diamond and so on) , but also because having a year gap between “seasons” while also having this year’s SR entirely based on the previous year/season’s SR is just asinine.
Do you know how many yearly competitive game modes I am routinely placed in plat or gold in just because I was high gold in standard competitive when the game modes’ season 1s were released? Yeah, literally all of them. It took an astounding amount of effort (and grouping with a reaper and sigma to destroy unbalanced 3-1 lobbies) to climb out of platinum in TDM season whatever-this-year-is. Meanwhile, on my alt AND my smurf, I placed diamond In tdm, 3v3, and ctf by just playing normally during placements. Playing normally during placements on this account leaves me still in plat albeit with a +/-20-50 SR variance just because “plat is where I left off” last YEAR (“season”) and the strong bias towards that oh-so-desirable 50% winrate. The diamond games on my alts are actually easier because I’m being paired with and pitted against players of my skill level and am being put in lobbies where the gameplay and player behavior makes sense instead of being thrown into lobbies well below my current skill level because the lobbies are based on where my skill level was a year or two ago. It’s actually harder in the plat lobbies because if my stats are good, I get paired with even more feeders, and the average skill is just crap compared to players in my rank (unless it’s a high plat master smurf)
Just because there’s “seasons” in the “competitive” ARCADE variant does NOT mean it should follow the same rules/coding of the traditional competitive experience.
