It’s shocking that what feels like 8/10 QP games will just have the tanks chilling at the choke point for all eternity, and even when we get a pick or two just refusing to push in and start making space.
What gives? Do they not know what they’re doing? Are they scared despite having a full healing team behind them? Obviously I know I’m not the only person on the forums to have this issue, but it ends up becoming increasingly frustrating when you see it happen game after game.
They are waiting for the dps to do their job for them. No kap. Like, actually…
Believe me, I’ve mained Reinhardt since season 4, i know what the tank is supposed to do. And yet even if we’re at an advantage the tanks often refuse to push in and just lock themselves to the choke, which gives the enemy team enough time to regroup.
There’s just not very many actual tank players (especially in QP!!!), most of them are flex players or DPS players farming passes.
You don’t need a pick to walk forward with a shield.
Also, it’s supposed to be the other way around… Initiating fights means that focus is taken off of the DPS, so they can take better angles to shoot things without instantly dying.
Have you seen how quickly tanks die? Everyone has to push in unison or the entire push fails. Stop flanking and help out a bit. A good mei wall can enable pushes against even the strongest poke.
b/c mercy + zen support-line constantly leaves me hovering around ~200 hp while pocketing some dork who is missing 75-80% of their shots

Depends. If dps don’t put pressure on the enemy as I push in, I get deleted before I can move forward a few steps

Where is this mythical Overwatch and can I play too? Because I MT solo queue, and I’m lucky if I have a support actively watching me instead of focusing on their duo/group/designated pocket/leet dps skills (COUGH) that they transferred over while farming priority passes. I do love the consistency of Mercy players who never heal you but are always there for the suicide rez after you die, though.
They’re not tanks, they’re DPSes playing as tanks.

because dps dont know how to support a push and would rather spedn 5 eons on a flank lose the fight then blame their tanks
As a tank I’ve been accused of not pushing, over extending, not following my DPS/healers; basically not being where other players want me to be. Tanks have to assess the situation and decide accordingly for their entire team. They’re not always going to get it right, and offering them a different perspective is both acceptable and preferable if you want to win.
But that doesn’t include typing in chat “HOLD ‘W’ REIN!”
heh i usually just go tracer or sombra and try to backcap just so the enemy team moves off choke so the tanks get a signal but even still they sit there waiting

yea it happens sometimes, i remember a long time ago when i mained widow more and would get like 2 or 3 picks sometimes both the enemy heals and my team would still stand on choke. hell i think i even killed 4 of the enemy team but no one pushed past and the enemy team spawned and came back lol
still my fault too for not using voice chat and yelling at my team to MOVE IN

You nailed the main points.
Confidence issues.
Play in selfish alt-infested bronze and you never learn how to push properly. Too passive or too feed-ded. There are skilled players here in bot500 with zero intent to derank, but they just 50-50 because of selfish practice (they have a main parked somewhere in the no-reset clouds and have hard games against other alts because mmr rigging).
Oversimplifying, there are a few kinds of main tank engage signals (e.g. rhein, not talking hog flank or ham disrupt or dva bombwipe):
I think in low ranks the blame goes back and forth. Tanks waiting for dps to wipe things then go in for clean up. DPS blaming tanks for not pushing. Or they come from high rank expecting the right follow and just get fed. It’s a terrible life being a tank honestly and I’m glad it’s being rounded down.

Not pushing is not because tanks are bad, but players are bad.
Games where Widow kills 2 people on kings row, but your tanks are still hiding from 1 Mei at choke.
Games where Roadhog kills enemy Winston and Doomfist on liang, but your dps get killed by a reddit Lucio boop off bridge.
i mean even when i had voice chat on i didnt use it. one of the reasons i never really climbed in rank. im too shy lol or im not the leader type. also im not very good either but i think if i really tried i could be plat or almost diamond hehe
