Hi everyone I was wondering why Blizzard doesn’t add portraits like in Overwatch 1. This system shows our level of investment in the games, it could be nice to add this portrait system in Overwatch2. they could give portraits to win, by playing quick or competitive games to win according to our rank at the end of the season a portraits that our ranking, or other systems to obtain portraits??

I miss the cool, evolving Ancient Greek-like portraits. Good times back then…

Because people were using it to bully other players for putting a lot of hours into the game while being stuck in a lower rank. That’s the only reason I can think of.

They were supposed to add customizable ones but there’s a growing list of things this game was supposed to do that it may never get to.

Blizzard diffusion server crashed
I was one of the first to have a diamond portrait border, and I had lots of fun reporting everyone who verbally bullied me about it. Never mind those idiots though. The best memories of random shock over chat and voice were of the people interested in my hours and wanting to know what I liked about the game so much.
I also thought the highest level portrait border looked pretty and would have loved to collect ever higher ones, had character and season specific ones, and even the idea of having animated borders.
I’ve tried making this suggestion a few times in years past, but no longer care to anymore. I have no doubt that if a dev working for today’s Blizzard happens see this thread, the idea they’d try pitching to their superiors would be of ways to try selling portrait borders (via paywalls) to people like me.

Their new engine couldn’t handle the load maybe?
I have over 1600h more than 600h on tracer alone.
yet I am a lvl 1 time jumper initiant because I didn’t pour 600h into one hero in ow2.
Luckily I played mainly qp in ow1 which is the one stat they didn’t delete from the history books.
any new System I am sure would get removed too anyway.
imho the biggest progression and investment shows when you know old abilities.
However it would be cool to have challenges to have a specific portrait, or for a game time you have such a portrait, or if you reach the platinum diamond master rank you are a portrait for each season, or even in the battlepass put some portraits in place of memories in relation to the theme of the battlepass or even then you play 50 hours plotting you obtain a specific portrait,
