Why does Tracer's ult kill her?

I recently started going away from supports and found Tracer is really fun to play. I haven’t been playing her for too long so maybe I’m missing something, but this really is a genuine question. It doesn’t kill me often but I’m newer to playing her so sometimes I just time it poorly and get myself blown up. Can someone explain why it kills her?

it’s only there to Balance out the game. I can’t provide a full explanation, but I do have tips to avoid it. Use recall after launch the pulse bomb, if that’s on cool down, use 2 blinks to get to the enemy, then use your last blink to get away.a

That’s the only thing balanced with a Tracer. She is the only person who dies by their own ult though.

(EDIT)

I forgot Pharah’s ult kills her too. So Tracer isn’t alone.

Because every blast damage hurts their own user ? (junkrat is the exception)

You should have enough mobility to avoid it anyways.

A badly positioned Pharah can too. I ulted into the high beams on Horizon point 2 once. Needless to say, I had a bad time.

Pulse bomb uses the tears of support players to fuel it’s explosiveness so understandably if Tracer comes in contact with it the restless souls of the killed supports tear her apart.

say it with me skill based hero

The same reason pharahs ult can kill her. It’s a powerful ult when you know how and when to use it

this seems like the most legit explanation. I understand now…everything is so clear…!

Add a jumping Winston and his shield too in this one. The amount of times I saw her dying behind of his mid air shield –

Ooooh I forgot about Pharah. Lol

Bastion too. It does hurt Bastion since peopke use it to rocket jump.

Because it’s a bomb.

Fair.

New question. Why doesn’t D.Va’s Ult kill her like it used to in beta?

I didn’t play during beta but I’d say probably because by the time she ejected she didn’t have enough time to run for cover? Tracer can blink and recall out of the way of the bomb. She has an easy means of escape.

OMG really? :astonished: I’m going to have to test that out.

Once you got good at it you had enough time to run for cover, and if you threw the self-destructing mech, you didn’t have to worry about it.

They changed it because it was negatively impacting the way that D.Va used her ult.

I brought it up not so much because it used to be a thing, but that because under the “It’s a bomb” logic, D.Va’s mech should probably kill her if she is still in range when it goes off.

Something so satisfying about pulling off the perfect pulse toss and placement.
