Overwatch makes my GPU and CPU run hotter than literally any other game I’ve ever played in my PC Gaming career. My reference 980 ti used to hit 90 degrees on a bad day, but only when playing this game, everywhere else it was mid 70s-low 80s. That card had awful cooling admittedly, but that doesn’t change the fact that Overwatch damn near melts my card while nothing else does.
I recently upgraded to an EVGA SC2 1080 ti which runs at around 60-70c in most games. But as expected it hits 80c+ easily in this game. It also manages to be the only game I’ve ever played that can look and feel choppy at over 200FPS. Anyone have any solutions? Do I need liquid nitrogen cooling for reasonable temperatures in Overwatch?
It melts mine even with liquid cooling. =/ Almost destroyed my CPU, but luckily I caught it early.
Upgraded to a better cooling system. $80 later and it’s doing OK, but still gets ridiculously hot sometimes. So /shrug.
I don’t know why OW is that intensive. The only other game I’ve run that stressed out my CPU that much was ARK when it was in early beta.

Good to know I’m not alone. Although considering how it’s been this way for over 2 years, I’ll likely just have to invest in better cooling like you did. rip.
Overwatch make heavy use of both cpu and gpu. Gpu running hot while underful load stock isnt surprising at all. If it a stock blower cooler it is even more likely to run hot.
As for the cpu overclocking, weaking cooler, improper application of thermal paste, broken fan, poor case air flow and dust are all factors. Capping your fps and lowering a few settings can also make a huge difference (like fog details, dynamic reflections, lighting settings etc).
If you would like more suggestions most your cpu, cpu cooler, case and fan setup and we might be able to make more suggestions. pics help too.
It’s not a hardware issue, this is 100% with the game itself. It’s the only game that makes my GPU and CPU run at such absurd temperatures, and it was the same on two different computers.

The only type of software that will push your cpu pass its normal max are power virus or ones that are designed to do so like prime95. IF what you were saying was true, it would be a major fault in the programming and blizzard would be slammed until they fixed it, it just simply isnt the case.
Hey ǶDougDoug,
Gelectrode hit all the major points that we usually see causing heat related issues with Overwatch. Speaking from experience, we’ve seen a wide range of systems that handle Overwatch without heat issues; most of the time when heat does play a role, its resolved with dusting out the case, reapplying thermal paste, and checking to make sure that fans are working correctly.
Generally, any time that an issue with the client occurs, we receive thousands of reports via the Forums and Web Tickets. As of writing, we’re not seeing the volume that would indicate an issue or a trend. If you’d like us to take a closer look into your system though, you can always contact us via a Web Ticket, and we’d be happy to take a look.

Nah dog. It’s this game. All my comps run super hot only with this game. Even on a test bench (unlimited open air) this runs my GPU at 80C… stock with no over clocking. This game will melt your PC if you don’t watch it.
