Why does the ptr have to download a whole copy of the game?

wouldn’t it make more sense to just copy the version i already have on my computer and just patch to the ptr version? i have super slow internet and always wind up putting it off in the end, rather than playing with the cool new stuff.

How do you even manage to play Overwatch at all if your internet is that bad?

I feel ya man overwatch is meaty enough as is and downloading it twice seems a bit overkill.
But id recommend just letting it install while you slept or playing normal overwatch while it downloaded.

Slow internet doesn’t mean bad ping…

if my internet is so bad that a 30 gig download takes an annoyingly long time?

what do you think this game requires a 10 megabyte/sec connection just to play?

I have a 50meg/sec internet to be fair an i dont like the double download either

bruh if youre bothered by ten minutes to download 30 gigs im mad jealous of your connection im looking at more like 4- 8 hours depending on my connection on that particular day

You don’t need to re-download the PTR!!!

You can create a directory by just starting to download it, then pause the download, close BattleNET, then copy the OW game folder into the OW PTR folder, then start BattleNET again, then the repair function will just “repair” the version and just download the missing things from the PTR.

Can confirm it works, I have done this for both the OW PTR and the Heroes of the Storm PTR, there was no way I was gonna download so much with my crappy connection here.

Hope this helps and saves you some time!

oh hey, i dont know why this didnt occur to me to begin with. thanks for the headsup

My internet is my lifeblood and my source of entertainment information and food sometimes
So yeah i have a nuts connection

Begs the question. If copying the OW folder into the PTR folder, works. Why don’t they just do that in Bnet in the first place.

Edit: I got beat

Pause the download. Close the launcher.

Go to where the regular Overwatch files are and copy everything. Find the ptr folder that is not completed and paste everything.

Then you will only have to download the changes
