Why does Sym's primary still have ramp-up?

If keeping her lock-on beam is “keeping her identity” like a lot of people said, then so would keeping her unique charge-up mechanic.

Saying sym’s primary takes “4 seconds” to charge is like saying Pharah’s ult does 3600 damage…yes, in absolute perfect conditions which rarely ever happen in normal gameplay.

So no, it doesn’t really take “4 seconds” because that requires 100% accuracy which never happens outside of attacking a barrier.

It should charge a bit quicker but that also should be its main purpose. The orbs and turrets combo is good at taking out non tank targets. She just needs a small boost to her short range fighting potential.

She may have to fight genji in close range

She needs to be able to defend herself

Just make it charge faster and make the base dps of the gun do more like 70

If it charges faster it would also have to ramp down faster as well.

If her primary is going to suck so hard then maybe they should give her primary fire piercing damage that’d be nuts

So they keep one of the WORST parts of old Symmetra because all it does is make her feel and perform worse? The part that no one actually wants? So kind of them. :roll_eyes:

Yeah, if you follow the logic that Sym’s “identity” was having a lock-on beam. This mechanic has a similar level of uniqueness.

It’d be like removing Zarya’s charge just to give her higher base DPS.

It’s because it has a new purpose of eating shields/charging on them for free. Her Alt Fire is basically her “primary” attack. She’s a discount Pharah with P H A T rockets. Unfortunately they are too slow and need to be sped up. Nearly her entire kit needs to be sped up (and 12m range for her Sentries too).

Except zarya’s charge encourages smart shield usage, it makes sense and works well

Except I’m not referring to the functionality of these abilities… I’m essentially taking a dig at the hypocrisy that people believe they can pick and choose what qualifies as an ability that is tied to the hero’s “identity”

I mean, you could literally be making useful, constructive suggestions to make the ramp-up less “clunky and pointless” instead of outright campaigning to have it removed.

I reckon if they straight up reverted her primary fire to what is was before, with the lock on and damage ramp, she would be in a better spot

Yeah, honestly my favorite part of playing sym was being dangerous at close range. Without the lock-on she is no longer a close range threat, and also doesn’t counter Genji anymore.
