Why does Sombra exist?

This isn’t a rant made out of anger, but why does Sombra even exist? Who in their insane, drug-ridden mind thought a character that takes your abilities away on a very short cooldown in a ability-based hero shooter game was a good idea?

Because of 1st - there are way too many abilities, and 2nd - who else would throw your games better than a sombra teammate, doing air most of the time? xD

Who in their insane, drug-ridden mind thought a character that can knock everyone prone - disabling all your abilities and movement with a push of a button - in an ability-based and mobility-based hero shooter game was a good idea?

Mercy and Winston get pretty significant air time too, you know.

She was invented at a time where mobility was much stronger (but also weaker), so I’m guessing it was an attempt to counter abilities/mobility. She isn’t too bad to deal with, and her hack is getting entirely reworke din OW2 so the abilities’ days are numbered

Mercy can enable the carry at least. What about monke…well he feeds nano I guess =) But I’d rather have this monke instead of afk rein who just look how everything goes around him and can’t get there =)

Sombra was hinted at as an upcoming character since early stage-1 beta. So, you’re looking at least a solid year before Overwatch was released.

Experiences vary, but in my case, I always win my fights.

Literally anyone who has ever played an ability based game. Silences are a staple of like any ability based game - RPG, MMO, MOBA, etc.

Its been so very long since she was actually alright on ladder and that was during a time where DPS characters werent even used so on that note she was like a saving grace for DPS players who didn’t mind her

But like 98% of the time she’s been a trash pick so I never understood why so many people get so worked up over her

Her mother and father got together one night. Then she popped out.

I’m ready for OW2 to have only superficial “abilities” and for everything to be basically cartoon COD.

The main problems with Sombra are poor execution from the people running her and people too cowardly to engage on EMP because they don’t think they can take a hero that only has a mouse click with their full abilities.

When a mommy hacker and a daddy hacker love each other VERY MUCH…

… Because stealthy and sneaky characters are a thing people like. And if you can accept someone who can send you back to respawn with no warning or indication before hand on less than 3 second cooldown, asking you to accept someone who makes you vulnerable (in some cases VERY vulnerable) for a few seconds isn’t even a stretch.

Game needed a Mexican waifu.

Geoff Goodman, pretty much.

Sombra can be used as a UAV if you voice chat with her.

Why does dva exist? who in their insane, drug-ridden mind thought a character that can fly around every 4 seconds nullifying map geometry and absorbing damage with 0.5 second cool down.

Quoting myself on this topic for like the hundredth time now:

You can also cancel hack with literally one unit of damage. ONE UNIT. You can prevent hack with a single pellet from D.Va’s gun from the other side of Dorado.

I mean, who would think a character who literally “blinks” around and then on top gets essentially a possible full health restore with a cone shaped spam gun with range now that can tag a flyer 3/4 of the way up the sky box putting the onus to aim on targets at ridiculous levels when that kit doesn’t have to employ equal aim skill in return makes sense, then tries to force balance into the game around that kit?

Sombra can be overpowered if you know who to hack and when. Also her EMP is mostly critical for enemy team and can be charged very quick. With Sombra you go mostly for EMP which is her main thing.

Sombra is one of those many cases of cool concept but horrible execution. At launch she was a pseudo damage-support hero by design that required some intelligence to use. Overtime the flaws of her design began to show and almost every aspect of her somewhat tame kit had to be buffed over and over again in order to compete with new burst dps or main healers in 2-2-2. Hack didn’t use to be such a brain dead ability either. Originally it required a balanced cast time and couldn’t hack enemies around corners. In fact, hack was primarily designed around hacking health packs in the past, and hacking enemies mid combat was just a bonus under situational circumstances. This is why you barely heard anyone complain about Sombra hack back in the day, it was almost exclusively her EMP people considered too strong. Obviously this is no longer the case today. Sombra has been given many crutches to her hack, primary fire, teleport, and stealth abilities since then that enable her to set up as many free hacks as she wants to.

OW2 was the last hope I had that the devs would finally amend her character into an actual utility + assassin hero instead of a hack bot. Oh how wrong I was. Instead of replacing hack or the silence debuff they are making her spam more hacks, just “smaller”. They truly learned nothing from the Valkyrie Mercy rework fiasco. The worst part is they have zero intention of actually fixing Sombra, or really any other hero. All these 5v5 reworked heroes will be given compensation changes that will inevitably be broken but will cater just enough to most of the players who play them.

In a better timeline Sombra was always a support and hack never silenced. Sadly we live the darkest reality where hero balance is nonexistent.
