Why does Junkrat do so much damage

For the amount of effort it takes to play Junk he sure does do a whole lot of damage on all of his kit.
His primary fire: 120
His mines: 120
His trap: 80
His ult: 600

I really feel like his kit needs toning down especially considering how easy it is just to spam his whole kit for insane damage

Because bombs.

Projectile move slow. Projectile get blocked.

Because it’s just as easy to avoid them due to primary fire being second slowest projectile, mines being inconsistent, traps can be seen, and ult is destroyable.

If anything, he is in the most balanced state he can be. Just need some bug fixes with hit box and trap registration and that’s it.

have you played him before, its honestly sad to see people so utterly bad walk into junk and not expect to get one shot so they use the excuse he takes little skill? Spam is easy to dodge even on maps like anubis because you can take a different route

He isn’t the most skill intensive character but he isn’t anywhere near as easy as like half of the supports

They ain’t ready for that J Silly

Stand 20m away from say mcree and try and hit him with 1 bomb by the time it hits hes already fired 3-4 shots that have landed

I’ve played him tons, sure he got potential at oneshotting with combo’s… for that he has to get close.

Yeah he really is a close quarters hero, longer ranges is more prediction which takes skill or a spamfest which can be countered.

Ain’t a pro, though i don’t see why he should be nerfed if his impact isn’t affecting the playerbase?
I mean the whole point of nerfs is to change things around so they aren’t OP, though if it were OP he would be played tons.

Nerf his primary and mines to 100 each and maybe increase something like how quick you can use both in succession

Basically this - even a good JR has difficulty with consistency. If you add up all the misses vs. the hits, he just hits hard when he finally does land a direct hit. At least half his damage is watered down due to distance.

I am adding him lately to my DPS roster, he’s very fun I have to admit. What’s funny is I am using the trap in combat, and got called out by a Reaper last night for “trap spamming” - in playing the game since the week before Moira came out, I have never in my life ever heard spamming attributed to a JR trap, I had to laugh at that one…

Junk rat definitely does not need a nerf or buff, he’s fine imo. He’s already super situational and can even be considered a throw pick in higher ranks.

That’s his entire shtick. He is all about burst damage.

Because he does literally nothing else. Junk is fine and he doesnt need nerfs or buffs.

I do find him an annoying hero at times, but I think his damage is fine. His whole thing is about explosive damage and he excels in close quarters and area denial due to the damage. Most of his kit has more than reasonable counter play. Mines and grenades have limited effective range due to slow travel time. Trap can be seen and destroyed. His ult has only 100HP, and he is highly vulnerable while using it.

It’s ironic in a way - we are opening the thread with “too much damage” and at the same time he needs a bit of help higher up. Genji is along these same lines actually.

His frag launcher does 120 direct hit, otherwise 10-80 splash damage.

Mines do: 30-120 over 3m radius

Riptire is 50-600 over a 10m radius. This means that it does step down in damage away from the center reasonably. I would guess at about 5m your are down to “only” 300… but its worth noting.

On death he drops 6x 50 damage grenades.

The numbers are much more reasonable if you look at the fact most is not pinpoint damage.

I guess cause of the lack of range, not being able to exactly aim them so well and how before they could damage him, just like pharah. Though, not anymore. I mean they still do a lot of damage and are very oppressive in very closed quarter maps or sections of maps. They could prob bring back the damage to him except for maybe the mines since that is so important for junk. Other wise we won’t full understand his power until he’s at a bigger part of the meta. At least to me.
