Wouldn’t it be better for the game in terms of attracting new players and maintaining the player base active? Does Blizzard plan to increase hero release rate for maybe 4~5 a year?
Because it takes time to develop a hero. We wouldn’t want a rushed hero who’s either too OP or too UP.
That’s why they should have time to finish a hero, and polish them before releasing them.

Because they need to think up a backstory, name, design, gender, abilities, animations, emotes, skins, sprays, etc. In short, it takes some time to do this.
Not only does it take time to produce a new hero, it takes time for the playerbase to learn how to play them and adapt.

Special Effects
Bug Testing
Quality Assurance
Repeat.
That takes time to do.
Eh, the new heroes have been:
Ana (Balance nightmare, literally never viable unless she’s mandatory)
Sombra (was useless forever, and whenever she’s not useless the game feels awful, also had to be hugely reworked)
Orisa (nice design, but has basically never been useful)
Doomfist (has always been a joke hero, and when he really seems to annoy everyone)
Brigitte (the most controversial hero in the game, hated by many and the only hero to ever cause a significant number of people to call for her deletion. Perhaps the worst thing to ever happen to competitive overwatch, and a failure in Blizzard’s attempt to leave dive viable but not dominating)
and Ashe… who seems good. Moira’s ok too.
Given the quality of the heroes they’ve released so far, I’d actually prefer it if they released fewer heroes, but release… better heroes. Maybe heroes that are actually designed to make the game more fun rather than just more varied. Perhaps designing heroes based only on a name or an element you want to counter, without considering the quality of the game as a whole wasn’t a great idea.

No way in hell are they increasing the rate lol
Cause this isn’t a Moba or a company that releases as many heroes as possible with increasingly unbalanced kits and that’s before they add in the modifier cards.
Pretty sure at blizzcon they said they expect to up there hero release rate, and im sure the fact that we are going to have to reinstall the game for all the fixes they have made probably took up quite a few resources the past year.
If you really want to know why it takes so long, design your own hero…
Because balancing a new hero becomes increasingly more difficult with every single release.
Because nobody wants to go through a drought. They’d release in bulk and then we get nothing for a year. F that.
