Mainly trolling and harrassment are the two main issues.
Compared to other platforms, we’re lucky. PSN still doesn’t allow any name changes.

If harassment was the problem it doesn’t mean it has to be solve by making it so you have to pay 10$ for a battle tag change. It could be wait a month or literally 1$ to change and it would have the same effect but since they want money its not going to be that way.

i’m pretty sure you get free one, don’t know how it works tho…it might be 1 free change per 6 months or a year. i have free one now on my account, i didnt buy it

I think it’s just one free change and that’s it. It’s not something given every so often that I’m aware of.

Hmm you’re right, I just tried it on one of my alt accounts which I know I’ve changed it on at least once and I had a free one (now used). Strange.

As a PS4 player, I’d spend $100 to change mine. Sony plz. My friends and I are all stuck with names from over 10 years ago.

you always get a free battletag switch a year after previous change i think.
There is a simple solution to this: think before you make your name.

With battle-tags existing ,how is this a problem ? it’s not like blizzard will have trouble identifying people (even without battletags)
Other platforms like Uplay and steam give you the option to change your name at any given moment for free and there aren’t any issues with it.
That doesn’t justify this or make it any better.
This is clearly just a money grabbing scheme by blizzard

Imo it should be free but only changeable once every 6 months or so. If they insist on having a price on it it should be max 5 bucks.

You could get one change for free before, and one additional if your username was banned (only the first time).
I get the banned username thing, but a regular free ID-change seems completely fine to me.
Should be one free one every year or so…

It because of the no-cost that it costs 10$. Meaning that close to 100% of that is pure profit. Now having a margin of close to 100% on something is a golden wet dream for most businesses, so that’s why they’re charging that amount.
Sure they could have done it for free and had technical limitations in place, but that 100% margins is oh so sweet and tempting.
