I just rerewatched the “Dragons” cinematic and realized Hanzo’s sword is damaged on the blade side. Did he have any lore for it?
And also the cut and the blood on the paper behind the blade doesn’t make sense to me. In what way did Genji get slashed to create that scene?
No lore about it. I don’t think this is critical, because Japanese swords need to be sharpened and straightened often after heavy use. And Hanzo, after the incident with Genji, left this sword at all.
It is assumed that Hanzo slashed him from the base of the neck to the thigh, diagonally.

If you match up the angle of the cut with what parts of Genji’s body are still fleshy (seen on his Blackwatch skin), it seems like Hanzo cut him diagonally from right shoulder to left hip from behind.

Hanzo must have stabbed Genji so hard that he damaged the blade.
Got damn.

Slashed, not stabbed.
Along the path that his blade is implied to have travelled are his ribs, spine, and shoulder bones. That is a lot of bones that would damage a blade if hacked in one swing.

Blackwatch skin gives us a clear view of where Genji received the most damage. If you turn him around and put him in front of the slashed scroll, you’ll get this:
People often think that there was this big fight between them, but I don’t think they fought at all. The type of a cut across the scroll and Genji’s body, as well as the fact that Hanzo is completely unharmed, implies there was no fight. It also implies Genji knew what was coming and let it happen. There’s no way a trained ninja wouldn’t have anticipated the attack and would simply remain standing still in front of the scroll. I imagine it was a type of a “Do what you must” situation and Genji turning around and refusing to fight back.
As for the dent in the blade, it’s not too hard to damage a blade like that. Aside from having to go through bones, it also probably hit some part of Genji’s armour (perhaps something similar to what he wears in his young skin). We know he wasn’t outright cut in half, so some part of the armour stopped the blade from severing him completely. That also probably made the dent.
