I have been learning Echo. It has been tough because I’m a Lucio main and previously when I played DPS it was only as Torb and Sym. I didn’t flank or make plays, I just protected the tanks. That kept me in silver and gold but I wanted to learn a flanker so I picked up Echo and quickly fell into bronze.
After 25 hrs on her, I now have a basic idea of how to play her and actually I think she has a ton of potential. She is fast. Re-positions easily and has great burst power. Her ult is one of the most diverse in the game. You can do a lot of stuff with her. She is a great back line assassin now they have turned down the noise from her hover motors. People don’t always know she is coming until it is too late.
Her most obvious weakness is enemy hitscan although to be fair good hitscan can delete anybody. So why despite being a fun hero to play with good potential is her pick rate and win rate so low? Is it that people would rather play their mains than bother with the stress of learning a new hero? Is it queue times? Or is her ult too unpredictable due to being reliant on the right enemy being around when you need them?
But she floats predictably than pharah, pharah can airstrafe the duplicating insect can not, i generally cant hit pharah consistently with hanzo or zen, but echo i can delete cause she is predictable, that said i think she is a sleeper like torb brig last year, brig torb were super strong last year but no one noticed it till mei reaper bap meta was gone, same way ashe genji are hogging the lime light.
Echo is pretty powerful with the right players, issue is most are playing her like pharah, instead of like a genji, echo can actually counter hitscans when played right.
A bit funny looking back, concidering awhile ago people were saying pharah/mercy (the prior flying characters) had no way to be dealt with. Man did time fly…
echos kit is centered on single target burst, any form of peel severely lowers the chances of her executing this.
also many of the tanks have a easy time landing shots on a echo, due to how close she needs to be.
which makes echo unique among the dps.
tracers kit is primarily designed around gaining attention, and cannot be reliably countered by any hero.
