just something i noticed whenever my team wins the first fight. Im usually too stubborn to play the heroes that I pick because im specifically in the mood to play them. im typically in qp so its surprising.
i never found rework bastion fun, i like to think i was being creative working around his old sentry mode, but its not so much theorycrafting anymore.
i notice people to tend to cling to the meta picks, even off dps, after their first death.
Welcome to the kill the tank meta…

Because he burns down tanks way too fast, is quite likely to make the tank leave in QP, and requires little to no skill. It’s basically admitting you lost the skill matchup with the enemy dps. Same when tank goes orisa or mauga.

Or you want to burn down the rein shield and he’s backed up by a tonne of heals.

Sure, but most of the time there is no rein, it’s just an admission the player is bad and goes straight to a crutch hero.

Nah, I’d swap on to Mei
They don’t stand a chance against the ice demon.
Mini gun goes brrr entire team melts.
This has always been bastions niche, a surprise burst of high damage when dps mains go full head empty mode.

Sustain is so high and tanks like Orisa/Mauga need to be killed as quickly as possibly so they don’t kill your tank first.
Bastion also has a bit of his own sustain.

Bastion’s dropped off the face of the earth in my experience. I actually wish he hadn’t, because Bastion’s still useful to have around. I don’t particularly enjoy being the only one who’s whittling away at Rein’s barrier.
Must be nice. He’s in almost every game for me, when I’m on tank. It’s like every time I’m doing good, the entire enemy team rolls tank counters.

My guess is that it’s because it’s easy to play and kills stuff. Path of least resistance and all that

It’s a double-edged sword because while it’s easier to have one less ability that forces me to either fall back behind cover and wait or to spend resources dealing with, it means that I don’t get that on my side, either.
Thankfully, only a few people seem to have twigged in QP that Mauga’s been buffed again. For now, anyway…
It’s from sustain and trying to cut through it. Bastian’s Minigun can blitzkrieg through tank shields and is one of the few sources of damage in the game that can pose a theat to a Mauga’s healthbar, even while being healed through a support with the right timing and positioning. All this while requiring relatively little skill too in comparison to the reward you get.
From this he’s often a first, rather than a last resort. If that fails, you’ll be seeing Mei, Sombra, really anything that can if not burn the tank down with damage, sabotage them to a crippled state.
It’s painful ngl but apparently Blizz’s design intention

I don’t really ever play him as a dps main.
But Bastion is cute so maybe that has something to do with it
only issue imho with bastion is if he has a shield tank like sigma and a high dmg output dps buddy like hanzo. because its hard to dive and hard to spam. as usually vs no shields. hanzo wins every single 1v1 against bastion thanks to storm arrows.
basically the same like if you put a sigma or orisa next to a widow. she becomes a big issue. as closing the gap is no longer a viable option.
People hate losing, the biggest losers crutch on meta heroes to win. Some people just need to stroke their ego as much as possible, I don’t ever switch off my picks unless I’m in comp and really have to in order to win. In quickplay? I could care any less, I’ll only switch if a pesky widow is holding my team hostage. It’s no fun getting spawn camped in havana by a good widow. Thats the only time I ever switch to sombra just to easily deal with widow. Then I start to spawn camp her instead and force her to switch out.
Cause little gun go pew pew
Me big gun, me go bang bang.
-translated from Bastion’s dubstep beatbox challenge he had with Cl4p-tp.
I didn’t notice that trend.
Maybe if the tank is playing Rein or Monkey.
I noticed a frightening amount of Sojourn and Tracer players though.
I simply do it for more damage.
yeah, sojourn is making a lot of games hell for the tank.
