If I’m going to play defense all of the time instead of attack, I want to be lazy too. Plus, I have lost track of how many times I’ve had the game start down a person because they are still in spawn.
I guess back in the day it had a purpose of teaching the path, but we now have team outlines, so a new person should be able to find their way back without the initial walk.

It’s called “spawn advantage”.
Attackers respawn closer to the objective at the beginning of a point. Defenders respawn closer near the end. The side with spawn advantage effectively has more numbers, since their dead teammates get back to the fight quicker.
It’s the primary thing that made Symmetra a support back in the day. She was able to amplify her team’s spawn advantage or eliminate the enemy’s spawn advantage.
It’s not about “learning the map”, it’s a fully intentional and foundational part of the game. Like, this is Overwatch 101.
OP is talking about the spawn at the start of game. Mid-game ofc what u said is meaningful, but the initial spawn being the same is both redundant and repulsive.

Yes, I’m talking the 30s you have to run from spawn to the first point, and set up for defenses. If they only want to give defense 15s to finalize their placement, then leave everyone in the lobby for 15 more seconds, and then have 15 seconds to sort yourself in the game before the doors open.
it is annoying when someone sits in spawn too long
I’m making that ‘wrong answer’ buzzer sound at you
All I want is a closer spawn on Paris for attackers taking on point B.
The amount of times I’ve absolutely stomped an enemy that’s out of position, or trying to spawn camp us, only to finally reach the point and have them already back with their team ready for the fight is RIDICULOUS. There’s just no incentive in taking them on hahaha.
Yeah, the Paris map is a bit strange. Distance wise it’s the same as any other map. It’s just that the choke point is so intensely hectic that it takes longer to get through. So by the time you get through, the enemy is there. It just needs a secondary route, even if it’s like Hanamura.
OT: I agree, it’s so weird. The initial spawn point should just be the objective itself. We can change Heroes if we go back into the point’s borders. They can shorten the time to 25-30 seconds. So you have 30 seconds to pick and setup. Vs 30 seconds to pick+walk to the point and then 15 seconds to setup.
Yeah, this is stupid.
Defenders should spawn at the point during setup. All this does is provide busywork and screw up the game if someone loads late or is dashing to the restroom between games or something.
