If you read the title, yes you might just say “because she’s a tank, duh”. But logically, why does a 19-year-old, 5’6ft Korean woman shares the same weight as a 7’4ft tall German soldier that is wearing full body armour and carrying a giant hammer?
I was playing Moira today, d.va used self-destruct on point, everyone died but our Lucio, it’s overtime and the baby d.va was near a ledge so our Lucio booped her off the map, but because of her tank passive she was able to air strafe counter-strike style back to the ledge, she then proceeded to call her mech and crush Lucio’s balls clean off.
No one left on the point, overtime ends, and we lose. My point is, I think it’s completely fair for the Mech to have the tank passive, but I don’t think baby D.va should have it, she’s meant to be vulnerable after all.
was watching a heroes of the storm d.va preview. never knew she had an ability in that game called big shot. basically a super charged laser in pilot form. be cool to have that in overwatch
Aaaannd… It’s all in the high tech suits these tanks wear, which is why D.Va in particular doesn’t become noticeably even heavier once she she gets into her mech.
While practically naked when outside of her mech, haven’t you ever wondered why this “mere” Korean woman gains no additional weight once she hops back into her mech? Probably because her mech must be constructed of some super duper light alloys and utilizes the same anti-grav technology that makes Zen and all the cars float in the game!
Reinhardt is probably no different, although we have never seen him outside of his suit. Maybe his armored suit doesn’t have quite as good as anti-grav tech or lightweight materials that D.Va’s armored suit has. (It does look quite medieval by comparison!) So who knows? Perhaps when outside of their armored suits, Reinhardt might even weigh less than D.Va!
I’ve never given it much thought before if she is actually affected or not. I want to agree and say not. But I’d much rather stick to my previous explanation for its silliness.
Logically, a German guy like that in the armor like that with the hammer like that would not be able to move or lift the hammer. And if he could and he could hit anyone/anything with it, it’d be a perfect pancake right then and there, no matter who/what it was. But it doesn’t happen - because “logic” ≠ “balance”
Quite frankly, “role passives” are a failure as a whole anyway. Tank passive is the closest to being right and that’s only because being knocked around by a Doomfist, Junkrat, Pharah and Lucio is irritating as all heck. Maybe Support passive gets a pass because self-healing as a support is nice so you aren’t so reliant on the other support (though you should still assist each other obviously) but… yeah. And DPS role passive is obviously bad because, well, yeah, not every DPS reloads, and some reloads more than others. Hanzo might as well not have a passive at all.
I’d much rather we either get character specific passives, or at the very least “sub-role” passives, so that some DPS gets this passive while other DPS gets that passive etc.
Support passive is even more required than the tank passive is, think for a second, how does kiriko heal herself if she doesn’t have that passive? I would wager the reason they even made role passives was how necessary it is for supports to have some sort of self heal.
Was it a flop? I never played it, I remember that it had skins you could only unlock by playing that game, but then they removed that requirement, so I never really had a reason to play it.
