Why do you play competitive?

For the atmosphere? For more serious version of QP? For SR? For golden weapons? To reach certain rank? Or other?

Share here why you go in competitive :).

Iam curious about different views on this.

I usually play on my alt because it’s like the middle-ground of being serious but not a complete joke like QP. I don’t really play on my main these days because this game’s only fun for trolling nowadays lol

Sad, but i understand you.

I play it to get the gold guns

Interesting :), do you think you wouldnt touch comp if there was no reward at all?

Longer games, and I wouldn’t mind having tracers golden guns I suppose.

Try to climb as high as possible,
and try to have with proper team

SR, people that are actually trying to win.

Less leavers and QP is boring imo.

First i started playing for gold guns. But now to reach higher ranks. My goal is top500. I started gold. Then i was stuck in plat for few seasons. Now i am almost high diamond ( 3160 SR right now )

I found a good group. That i play with. I hope i will finish this season at Masters

The gold guns and the competition.
qp is just not serious enough and seems like a waste of time

I started comp in season 1 and 2 because I was a stinky dva one-trick at the time and I really wanted her golden guns, mostly to have all of her unlockables and feel accomplished. It was a goal.

S2 I placed 2300, and fell to 1700, where it felt exactly like quick play, just with a hero limit. I just played for points and used it to mess around with other heroes I thought were fun like Roadhog, Genji, Mei, Hanzo, etc. since I fell so low and it felt like QP.

Ended up watching a lot of guides, focusing on improvement, and grinding comp up to 4-5 hours daily for points. Unintentionally ended up climbing to 3k solo, where my end of season points (1200 at the time) would be enough for a gold gun. I improved a hell of a lot when my only goal was a gold gun, I just figured higher ranks = less games and effort needed.

I had some of my most intense, memorable games on the climb up, started playing with folks in a PS4 discord server a lot more after I hit 3k, duo and trio queued, and got to 3280 or something with them. We also played online tournaments and I had cool teammates in them, I’m still good friends with one of them. The gold guns lured me into the competitive side of the game and I loved it.

Once I got to gold I played Reaper to climb to plat (gained 75-80 SR for 3 games in a row just by flanking teams), then played dva while flexing onto Lucio/Zen/76/Reaper when needed to diamond. I didn’t play any other tanks well at the time so I only flexed supports and dps.

It was also nice to get away from the obnoxious hero stacking in QP, too. That was before the anti-stall changes that affected respawn timers and certain abilities. 6 dvas, 6 junkrats, multiple torbs and syms, 2-3 pharahs, more than one Mei, etc. were the worst experiences I’ve had with the game. At least no limits now is more chill, people mainly just use it to mess around with new heroes.

I was like “hey ladder is cool and actually really fun and I like it a lot more than QP and arcade”, I played it as much as I could, had to move somewhere with no net for 8 months, then got back into the game season 5 and I’ve tried to play a decent amount each season. I was only able to do placements for s4 and had to miss s3. Lost 8 placements s5 and had to climb from 2700 back up to 3k. Started improving slowly after.

I’ve been drawn so much into comp that I even have 3 smurfs (they’re free on console) and now I’m a filthy dva/torb/junkrat 3-trick who sometimes flexes if torb’s not working while dva’s not available. I still play comp a lot. I don’t really like QP outside of a warm-up and connection test most of the time, I play arcade for boxes.

Funny to think that was from a very casual goal. And the dev team still thinks golden guns ruin comp.

I might have never touched comp if I didn’t have that random incentive 2 years ago. Now I’m 3430 and trying to break into Master. Wish me luck.

I never have matches as satisfying as when I’m up against and equally matched and determined team In comp. I can usually at least get a few a day and God is it so satisfying to come out on top of those really close and heated matches. Also just longer matches in general is a win for me.

I want to improve and play the game at a high level, along with other like-minded players.

I used to only play QP but I realised Comp is a more serious atmosphere where people actually try to win. Yes, team comps are still horrible because Blizzard doesn’t incentivise picking supports or tanks but at least there are less throwers.

i only play comp with friends not to actually get ranked or anything but because its a little more serious than QP. it does feel alot more satisfying when both teams are actually trying to win

I actually want to play with a semi decent team comp as opposed to 5 dps and me
