I decided to take a brake from all this craziness in comp playing and stressing like better SR will bring me something and i gave torb a run. Holy smoly the amount of hate this character gets. I had to leave chat and voice after 2 games, i had games with 15k+ dmg, multiple kills on last fight winning the game, spamming armor packs like it’s no day tomorrow , i get a card almost every game and not even one “thumbs-up” ( im not kidding, i tracked to see when my first “like” will come, 7 hours on him and nothing I know, cards, golds, stats, mean nothing but man this cute little dwarf gets lots of hate right from the bat. Now my question is why blizzard allow this to happen to one of his most iconic character in their franchise. If you can’t bring him to a state where is not hated like this i think it’s better to delete him, cute little dwarf doesn’t deserve this treatment

for more experienced players than me what do you think Torb needs to be in a better state? before i thought more armor from the packs will be nice but now with Briggite i don’t think that’s possible anymore

Anyway though, people don’t like Torb because the playerbase perceives him as a bad hero and has a reputation of being a “troll pick” thanks to a lot of people that use him to grief, giving good Torb players a bad reputation.
I don’t hate him, I like Torbjorn. Most people don’t give Torb players a chance even on the Defense side. I always give Torb players a chance on defense or on attack.
I hate him because he’s so strong. Hit box is way too small and it’s so easy to land a shot with his primary fire. I’ve never played Torb and I never will.
Don’t put the hate any character gets on Blizzard.

BTW, you’d be amazed how much support you would get for choosing torbjorn if you played with my group. I’ve had games where people pick him to troll everyone and we literaly pressure them into staying with torbjorn and will be extremely disappointed if they switch.
Only reason I have to hate Torbjorn at this point (other than the ridiculous range his turret) would have to be that he help give birth to the fun-police herself, Brigette.
Here is the problem with Torb. He is good or even great when he is all set up and full strength. He’s got his turret and he’s got armor packs, all is well in Torbland.
At some point in just about every team fight, the turret dies. When that happens Torb becomes significantly weaker and he is definitely underpowered compared to everyone else.
The rest of the fight he is either weak, or he spends all his time trying to get his turret back in operation. Either way, he is an anchor for his team.
I don’t understand why he gets hate. I love working with Torbjorn players. The only thing i wish about them is that sometimes I wish some players had better armor management.
But besides that? They’re great! Especially if they’re good shots with Torb’s gun. Then all my nanos are going to them!
Hey, Bronzebeard! Check my profile. I’m actually a “Torb main” as of this post and have most of my hours on Torb this season. I have a crazy high winrate (67% and 9 hours atm) with him and climbed closed to 700 SR after switching to playing Torb over other heroes.
Despite this, I get sooo much hate that it just makes me not want to play him at all. I report / mute people for their toxicity and don’t respond with toxicity, but they all report me for “throwing” even though I was absolutely not throwing. I’m often the point of blame even when I know darn well I am pulling my weight.
It’s incredibly frustrating that this hate is even tolerated. I love that Blizzard will ban/mute toxic players, but I feel like it takes a bit too long / too many reports for them to do that.
My team was losing and I was playing support earlier. Someone asked if anyone is not on their normal role, and to switch heroes if so… so I swapped to Torb and BOOM… everyone tilts and thinks I’m throwing.
We went on to win the game because I kept getting picks as Torb on offense and defense, but not a single person apologized or complimented me for my performance. That being said, I do sometimes get games where people will compliment my Torb gameplay, and it feels nice.
Honestly at this point, I’m mostly just not going to play Torb as much and will instead play other heroes, because the toxicity just really makes the game so much less enjoyable.
tldr - I play a lot of Torb and he is by far my best hero at the moment. Despite this, people would rather me play heroes I’m worse at because they aren’t willing to give Torb a chance. It’s frustrating and I wish verbal abuse was punished more often than it actually is.
Also, I do recommend staying in voice anyways. There are so many games I would have lost if I wasn’t in voice… but if you really just want to avoid all toxicity, then by no means should you join voice. Haha.
sorry to hear that and that’s exactly my experience with Torb now, every single word you said it’s true in my case. One question, did you get banned until now? im afraid with all the reports against me when i play torb that i will be banned. Fuey got banned for playing Torb and he’s a GM
I did not get banned, but I did get a warning that I’m going to have longer queue times because so many people have added me to their “avoided players” list.
I know I’ve been reported a lot for throwing, but haven’t been banned. They do seem to be more careful at issuing bans to people playing off-meta heroes, as they know we are more likely to get false reports.
That being said, if I keep playing him it’s possible I will get banned, but even if I do I can get the ban dropped by appealing it.
Completely understandable. I mute people at the first sign of toxicity, because usually the flame will get worse as the game progresses… so it’s better to just mute immediately to avoid it.
Sorry for the verbal abuse you’ve received. Definitely watch Fuey500 play Torb though! I’ve copied a lot of his strategies and they work pretty well.
Also, when you use molten core, try to burst down the tanks as Torb’s right click is great at tank busting.
