Why do y'all care about rank?

Everyone seems to want to rank up, which makes sense. Higher SR is supposed to indicate better overall gameplay. But a lot of discussion seems to be around gaming the system to increase SR. Finding out how to abuse the players at your rank and whatnot. But I don’t really get it? Are you trying to get to better teams? Because we keep hearing from high ranking players that they don’t get better. If anything, games’ll get harder, because the enemies’ll get better. It seems like people want to be told they’re better without actually getting better. Maybe I’m missing something.

I’m a competive person. It’s just my nature.

Really? Do you mind if I ask why? It’s kinda my way of speaking, but if it’s offputting maybe I’ll keep it to RL

Cuz I wanna be the very best. Like no one ever was.

If I smurf, I will literally win every game.

Of course I’m better if I’m a DPS (flex) main.

The idea of games getting harder is hard to explain because they almost feel exactly the same. In the sense, your games (if you’re in plat or something) feel exactly the same as mine do. Only because you’re the same skill level as the people around you. Exactly the same thing with me and my rank.

I just want games where people play as teams.

Ended up in silver elo hell this season trying to play team buffing heroes that worked well for me at mid gold.

But silver is an utter sh** show where nobody wants to team up, attack together or even use barriers. Unless you’re a dps, or a hero with dps potential than you’re in for a bad time.

I’m hoping to get back to mid gold next season (I am getting to play games at 2200 at end of last season as duo queued with a higher SR chum), where I can play with some semblance of teamwork and comms.

My natural skill cap is around 2400 SR, and I found 2500 games to be very frantic (Still won them as had good team mates).

Some heroes are easier to win with at higher SR, just because your team is able to actually utilise their kit. “It is recommended that you stand behind the barrier.”
Wise words indeed.

I grew up with an older brother. We competed against eachother in literally everything we did. It’s just a way of life for me.

i like ranking up. i like doing when i am drunk. it fun doing both at the same time

People want to look good without getting good and putting effort into it. Just like how students spend so much time creating cheats which if they spend that time in studying they will get easy A’s.

To catch rank is my real test, to train’em is my cause!

Admittedly I care more than I should. When I drop low enough, games become too easy and I end up carrying. When I go up high enough, games become too hard and I feel like a potato. Even though I know this, I still look at my SR and feel better when it’s on the higher end of that range.

Because people have enormous ego, which just allow their “I am better than you” mentally to feel them special.

Most of the toxcisity in this game comes from this. Game is actually fine as it is.

You may have picked the wrong game to be competitive in :stuck_out_tongue:
This game is as casual and random as it gets.

There is no “wrong game” to be competitive in.

I play games for fun, and for me, fun is progress. Improving myself enough to tangibly move up the ladder is immensely satisfying.

That said, I don’t really care about rank, because it’s a side effect of learning.

Lets play “nobody cares because it’s Overwatch”. Anyone who thinks rank means anything in this game needs to ask themselves some hard questions :stuck_out_tongue:

casual player playing in casual rank claims the game as a whole is casual, the problem is that you dont ask yourself questions

I was stuck in the same place for a long time. I care about rank because I want to be somewhere new, and never want to be there again.

For me, it really is a pride thing.

I do know that I belong in plat as I spent 6 and a half seasons in a row there. But Season 8 wasn’t really kind to me, and I haven’t really cared much about season 9. Now I just want to get back to where I belong.
