Why do we only get defense maps?

I’ve now had NINE defense maps in a row among my payload / hybrid maps. I’ve started leaving them before character select, but only get more defense.

Is something broken? The odds of nine in a row are about 2%, and I’ve never gotten nine attack maps in a row.

I’ll tell you what, I’ll trade ur defense maps for my teammate Hanzos, literally like +90% of my matches I have a Hanzo that goes 0-10 till mid match, feeding.

And then, swaps to Genji, and its worse.

If I’m actually attacking on a payload map the odds of either a Widow or Hanzo are 99%

Good lord… I would have hated that too. Escort and Hybrid maps are a pain in 5v5, especially with the game’s current state…

That’s not cool, though. Never leave a map, no matter what. Maybe the game understood that you hated defense and is punishing you some more, haha.

As far as I’m concerned, the rotation is pretty neat but I’m literally a saint in game : I never leave, rarely ever get toxic or retaliate (and when I do, it’s constructive criticism or advice).

What’s your endorsement level (I’m just curious and want to find some link) ?

I also get a disproportionate making of defense maps.

Ages ago I started to feel like I was getting them way more often- so I started keeping tabs on it. Maybe it was confirmation bias or something- I street for dislike defense, maybe I was just hyper aware of it every time I got it

over a few hundred matches I noticed a trend - I was getting defend about 60-70% of the time.

Now like you’d mentioned I just leave defend 99% of the time at character select and will only play on attack.

Been much happier for it overall.

It does mean I predominantly play on like push or KotH maps though- because of how often I leave payload maps which kinda sucks. But whatever.

There’s no penalty to leave before the match starts, and I don’t want to exclusively play on the defense side. It’s fine.

I once got 13 in a row (including those I left).

Meh, still not fair to your team that sometimes can’t find a backill right away, but well, you do you ^^'…

Have had the same issue for months now. started to always leave defence

Now in a run of 6 defense in a row, let’s see how far it goes before I get an attack.

(I played 3 of them and they were all absolute stomps where the other side had Diamond+ players on their side I had DPS going 0-12)

EDIT: attack on the 7th map

Because you’re playing qp.

Having the exact same issue. I have not received an attack map in 3 days. I only started to really care or notice when my friend started to play with me and tell me that he only got defense maps when he played with me. Is there something wrong with certain accounts causing this? I never leave games either.

lets not stigmatize leaving before the game starts now… for the love of god do you guys want queuing up for a quick play game to be a bigger commitment than marriage?

I’m not stigmatizing anyone, I’m just calling out a disruptive behavior when it comes to online gaming, is all.

Whether you like it or not, leaving a PVP game after having committed to queuing for a match has consequences on the other players and their experience (“Competitive” or Quick Play is all the same).

I feel no shame in saying that I avoid that kind of people, whether I happen to interact with them IG or IRL. One might say I’m a stiff type of person but I don’t mind.

I don’t have to tolerate people’s BS and selfishness, no matter the context. I believe in the need of rules when it comes to group activities or else it’s chaos.

There’s nothing political or unfair when it comes to playing a PVP game so there’s literally no valid reason for anyone to boycott a match in the middle of it or behaving badly (throwing, leaving, insulting etc…).

There are activities I don’t have patience for, so I simply don’t participate in them and find myself a leisure that is more to my liking. People that leave matches in PVP games should listen to themselves and quit the game at all times and do something else in their free time (so they’re not a burden for the rest of us).

Bad analogy as marriage only involves two people who are free to be disruptive to each other whenever they want, it’s private and their business.

Group activities with strangers should be taken more seriously as it indeed involves strangers. You don’t treat strangers as casually as you would people that you know, right… ?

Edit : Keep in mind that I don’t get especially mad about this when I encounter leavers or any type of disruptive players. I simply reported them (and block them, if needed) and move with my games. That’s my way of contributing to any online game becoming a better place for players.

Because people do this.

It was a deliberately exaggerated analogy to get my point across, but apparently that was lost on you

It was bad analogy not because it was hyperbolic, yet because you implied something inaccurate when it comes to life reality.

People are usually more respectful towards strangers compared to people they’re intimate with, meaning they would literally be more likely to throw any game or group activities with people they know, and would take it more seriously if it were with people they don’t.

Also, a private commitment such as marriage can’t be compared to a commitment with strangers in a group activity 'cause the latter is usually not the one you can bail out on, once you’re there and agreed to it, just because you feel like it (if we’re going to compare it to marriage).

The consequences would be bigger when not committing to the end in an activity with strangers 'cause they wouldn’t forgive you as easily as your partner (husband / wife) would, as there are no personal feelings intertwined. You’d be cut off without a care (this is the equivalent of penalties for leaving in Overwatch, for instance, but not sure you are able to make the link).

Hence, why your silly example with marriage doesn’t really make sense, especially nowadays where the symbolic of an union doesn’t mean much for most people.

And just like that, you’ve become the reason why people disproportionally get Defense.

Whatever, it’s not that deep so just forget I said anything, it’s clear that you just want to pick a fight because you’ve got nothing better to do, but I’m not taking the bait. Cast your line elsewhere.

Very rich from someone bored who quoted my post first, just out of usual provocation on this forum where everyone is nice and can accept people having a different stance from theirs about leaver penalties

But yeah, sure, play the “I’m above y’all poor peasants 'cause I so-called take things lightly” card, yet feel the need to quote people and mock them.

You’re very convincing :upside_down_face:
