Because people have good and bad days. They play against others who play counters to their best heroes.
Some have better reflexes or awareness than others.
Some are better at teamwork than others.
Some just are better at ult tracking and economy than others.
2 people can win the exact same amount of games and be the same mmr, but one might still be better at the game than the other due to just having faster reflexes or being better at any other skill.
It comes down to luck and your personal willingness to be a team player most of the time, and then choosing the right teammate to support.
Oh please that is a lame excuse when this happens almost every day. Streak after streak, stomp after stomp. That is not a person having an off day, that is literally bad matchmaking.
The match maker absolutely has some kind of algorithm where it tries to keep you in the same rank that your MMR is tied to.
For example In the ârank gameâ where you are supposed to rank up, you are almost always the highest ranking player in your team. The game decides you need to carry the full team in order to move on, and it sucks.
Iâm a Mercy main who had been hard stuck masters for years. Every time I get into GM 5 I get a lesser team (either their DPS are blatantly better or their tank has their brain turned on), and every time I dip into high diamond i get cracked DPS on my team that land every shot.
I reached masters like 3/4 years ago, and the game decided this is the rank I belong in.
Watch me buy a Smurf and climb to mid GM no sweat, because the matchmaker doesnât dck you over on new accounts)
The fact that everyone is kept at about a 50% win rate should give you a clue that youre wrong. Its not about a player having a bad day, bad luck, bad teamwork; when you go over the 50% threshold you get stuck on a lead weight team that makes it literally impossible to win. This is how QP works; for comp it works basically the same, as this guy elucidates:
Youd have to be pretty oblivious to not notice that this happens, and it makes for a worse, less fun gaming experience because instead of just being pitted against âbetterâ players, youre teamed up with much worse teammates that youre expected to carry somehow.
Thats not fun at all; in a lot of those games you can play your little heart out, do great, but it just feels like desperately flailing at a certain point because your attached to the cement blocks on your team.
Sprinkle in some cheating as well⌠I have noticed that some people have found a way to reset their picked powers. I checked each round enemy build cause there was a healer that was just so good, so I checked their build each round and noticed at round 5 that the round 1 and 3 were now round 3 and 5 and a new round 1 power was picked and not to mention at round 5 they had 75k cash. Unless there is something I donât know, but I thought powers were a done deal once selected, canât sell back or move them around.
There s nothing more the devs can do with matchmaking.
Even if all players have the exact same mmr, one player calling the game a loss after the first fight will create a snowball.
If everyone keeps doing their best, that game could be nail bitingly close. But one person tilting over anything might ruin the match because they could begin to unintentionally feed.
This doesnât happen.
Only once you stop improving at the game will you start seeing a 50 winrate.
My qp winrate has been around 60% for years now. So idk.
Over a long time, you will climb if you have the skill.
In short time your wins and losses fluctuate a lot, but you will climb if you truly are better than the people around you.
It just takes time and grind.
I wished someone would give us a concrete answer. This narrative of get good is more proving the point the matchmaking is bad than its good. What I donât get is why in QP the game will give me silvers and bronzes and will match us up vs diamonds and masters, and then expects me to play server admin to have a shot at winning.
The matchmaker is absolute hot garbage. Yes there are factors outside of the matchmaker that contribute to wins and losses. But the matchmaker is not a level playing field in this game.
It really needs to stop dumping people in just wherever. Iâd definitely wait far longer for a game if I knew I wasnât about to be used as a punching bag for someone who has no business being in the same lobby as me.
Or worse, have a win only because three members of the enemy team are literally standing there emoting because theyâre so horribly outmatched thereâs no way theyâd win even if they tried. It feels sooooo bad. (At one point we all just stood there saying âsorryâ a lot to each other because we all just did not want to be there.)
It makes for a truly miserable gaming experience. Cuts my âengagementâ by several orders of magnitude, and ensures I literally never spend anything in the store ever.
Swingy matchmaking is what most games choose because it keeps the most people addicted.
They literally hire professionals to study this stuff. Most players analyze matchmaking on a metric that is secondary to the higher ups. They want it addicting, not fair.
Okay, so I noticed that the match maker does this, but I donât think it does it to make you lose on purpose. I think the intention is to make players prove that they deserve to go up to the next level. Iâm not saying that itâs a good system, but thatâs my belief in what it is intending to do.
