I’ve never understood the argument for including a match-wide scoreboard. Overwatch is too dynamic, team-fights too dependent on synergy between characters, for individual stats to provide any tangible value.
If you see your DPS has low elims and damage, is that because they’re playing the wrong heroes, they’re positioning poorly, or they have bad aim? Or is it because your supports aren’t healing them enough? Is it because your tank isn’t creating space or opportunities to secure kills?
There’s too much co-dependency for stats to help make good decisions. If your supports have high healing, it could be because they’re truly playing well, or maybe they’re just pocketing the tank who keeps rushing in and taking a lot of damage.
I’ve always made my decisions based on hero selections, map layouts, and observations from team-fights. A scoreboard isn’t needed for this; start actually paying attention and you’ll be fine.
People already analyze their teammates, though they can’t fully connect the dots without such scoreboard.
With the scoreboard those “analyzers” can also use that information to tell others what to do… though this isn’t really what it’s used for.
You use it yourself, to compare it to others.
You know what you are doing, though you are not always aware how well your enemy is performing compared to you.
Though since you’re not making any points against the scoreboard i assume you’re actually looking for a reason to why as it could be useful to you.
Everyone has their own thing, if one finds it more useful than another so be it, any amount of information helps.
Pretty much all the info will be useless mid game, and have ppl misunderstand it. Low dmg and Elims doesn’t mean they are doing poorly, if it’s like a widow getting a pick early each fight etc.
I hope there is an option to have it similar to live, the only info that I care to see mid game is which hero everyone is on, respawn timers, and ult charge %.
I’m all for seeing all the info at the end of the game, just like watching a replay.
Example:
“OMG! Our Moira is a DPS-Moira! She’s using her attacks instead of healing! Report for sabotage!”
“Check stats bro.”
There were many false reports from sweaty try hards who didn’t get a pocket and convinced the team to mass report the healers. Now there is evidence to vindicate those falsely accused of under performing.
This is something they actually mentioned in the dev report. They were basically saying the medals system caused people to falsely accuse other people of performing poorly when they weren’t and it created a lot of toxicity. It wasn’t just supports that got harassed though, a lot of it is also people who play high skill floor heroes. I main ball in tank and zen on support and the amount of avoids and reports I received for playing these heroes climbing through metal ranks was astounding lol. Little do they know the person they accused of throwing and being trash has now left them in the dust and plays support and tank in diamond.
Medal system directly contributed to so much toxicity. Sure some people will use scoreboard to be toxic but the truth is its only going to reduce toxicity overall cause most games, stat gaps aren’t large enough to throw the blame on one person or role.
Serious players will use it to make adjustments and get better. Toxic players will use it to be toxic - but toxic players would be toxic with or without a scoreboard or medals or even anything at all.
I hear you, and agree that the medal system was fundamentally flawed from the start. But replacing one improper scoring system with another is not the answer. People don’t need stats - simple numbers can’t help a player make a decision.
The only data needed is what map you’re on, and what heroes the other team has. Anything outside of that is ineffectual.
Well, I was accused of this in the beta, despite having the highest healing out of all 4 supports, just some people are blind and want to pick someone to blame, the supports are the easiest to blame I guess lol.
Though, he did leave before anyone was able to reply to him so I do have a sneaky suspicion he checked the Scoreboard and saw my healing and instantly left lmao.
I have an example to share. I played a lot of Moira in beta. I have pretty much 90% winrate. I always notice when opponent team has Moira, their heal and damage is very different to mine. For example, when I have 4.5k damage, 4.5k heal, 19 eliminations and 1 death, they usually have 1.2k damage, 7k heal, 5 eliminations and 6 death. By having this new information, it reinforces me the belief that I’m playing Moira the correct way: balance damage and heal as Moira is designed to do. Without this information, I’ll be constantly guessing if I’m better at aim, game sense or CD management.
Now imagine I’m on the other side. If I play Ana and have 20% winrate, I can always compare my stats to opponent’s Ana and figure out how to improve.
Why does any video game or any thing need scoreboards or rather statistical boards on performance? Well, I’d say to compare achievements and performances with one another. The reason, for calculating when goals are met, measurement for self-improvement, and of course for rewards and bragging rights. Human beings are competitive and enjoy competition with and against their peers and they want ways to prove themselves for their efforts.
Stats are actually completely useless without context. One Ana can be a healbot machine but can’t hit a timely sleep or a fat anti or know the right time to use nano. Another might be “dpsing” but consistently sleeps an ulting genji or antis the entire enemy team and is actually contributing more to winning a team fight than the opposing Ana.
I think the OW2 score boards are pretty bad, mostly cause they are so detailed it takes way to long to read them mid match. It displays full information for both allies and enemies… which seems too much imo.
And it goes away if some one leaves a match at the end. The best time to realistically look at the stats to see how people did, the end of the match is mostly ruined if some one just leaves. I hate the current system we have.
it’s so vague and poorly executed it needs improvement. But what I have seen so far the OW2 score board is just badly designed and thought out. For something people have been asking for since OW launch it’s a pretty bad attempt.
I cannot emphasize this enough. Whether it's the scoreboard or the metal system, just because there is a disconnect in stats doesn't mean the person in question is throwing or not. I fear this is only going to be used as a tool for scapegoating and toxicity, similar to all the harassment that led to private profiles.
No. Its a design problem. If you want to see heals done it should be yellow. If you want to see dmg done it should be red, etc. Colours are necessary and they just used all white which confuses our eyes and we dont have time to distinguish data.
If you already know this, it sounds like the scoreboard will be of great use for you. For example, you know widow will get a certain amount of kills each team fight, so you’re able to gauge if Widow is killing more people than usual and therefore should be focused more.
You can’t always tell that in the heat of battle, but with a scoreboard you can.
