Why do we get -SR when someone leaves and we lose the match?

I dont understand why the rest of the team has to lose SR because 1 or more players leave the match? Cant you just fix so that team lose 0 SR and the team who won gets how much SR they are supposed to get? Or am I wrong here?

Back fill or let the leavers team have -3…-7 (e.g.) SR lost based on the duration of leave

It’s way too exploitable because players can have alt accounts. You could boost a friend an extraordinarily amount while receiving almost no penalty and never having your play interrupted.

No worse feeling than losing a sure fire win because someone drops, or rage quits because the only hero being countered is theirs.

Because people would supposedly get their friends to leave while they’re losing and they would avoid losing sr .-.

I think it’s just silly. I mean, the friend would eventually get tired of having the penalty unless they want to derank.

I mean it’d be more abused by people who have friends that collectively have multiple accounts or would trade off who takes the penalty.

Yeah. I still feel like it’s not super likely to happen and it’s far more likely that people will lose sr just because someone left. This way the winners will still gain their sr too. Or is that also unfair?

I don’t think people who win should be punished since a lot of the time, someone leaves because they’re getting stomped. The winning team deserves full sr in that situation. The only changes I think that can/needs to happen without creating other/bigger problems are:

  1. Make the team that has someone leave lose less sr proportional to how long they were gone. Someone leave for half the match? You lose half the sr. But someone only leave for 1 percent? You’ll only lose 1% less sr. That way people can’t leave at the last second to make their team lose drastically less sr and you’ll be compensated based on how much of a disadvantage you are at.

  2. Increase the severity of penalties for repeat leavers. People have random tech issues so first time penalties should stay soft. But if people start leaving frequently they either don’t have tech that should be used for comp or they’re trying to troll.

What’s worse is if someone from the enemy team leaves:

  • If the leave half way thru, you get 1/2 as much SR because your performance is 1/2 what it should be. So you have to sit thru the whole thing.
  • If every single person from the enemy team leaves, the match is canceled at you get 0 SR.

Leaving just screws everyone over.

I’ve had this happen to me a few times and I’m pretty sure I still got SR.

I’d like to see a surrender option put in. Where (maybe only if someone has already left or at all times) a team can choose to forfeit a game with either an extreme majority (4/6 or 3/4 for example) or even a unanimous vote to surrender. It can either be because people left and the game is a loss or because they’re getting beaten so badly that they don’t want to try anymore.

It’s rare, but the last time it happened to me my SR stayed the same as before the match started. No victory screen. It just went to main menu. It was like it was a whole stack that left together - the chat log showed leave messages from everyone on the enemy team.

If the match gets canceled at the start there’s no match to play so no one gets sr.

Yeah at the very start. I think he meant if someone left and then everyone else left after the timer ran out and then the match ended.

:man_shrugging: I’ve never seen that happen in my own games so I wouldn’t know first hand. But I’ve heard several people have their sr not change if everyone on one team leaves.

To everyone who says ‘but friends will leave to dodge SR losses’:

How about anyone grouped with the leaver is peanalised as normal, but the people who aren’t grouped with them have no SR loss. You would still occasionally get someone who leaves for their team, but it would be much rarer as they would have to have queued into each other.

The only way a friend could leave for you is in the highest SRs where less people means you would probably queue into each other, but in this case there is a 50% chance they will be on the enemy team, and gaining back that 50SR lost would be far more dificult than in plat for instance (you can’t smurf at 4500 because that is about as high SR as you can reach)

That just punishes people who group even more. Read my other post I put a way for people who have someone leave in any scenario to be compensated fairly without a potential of as much abuse.
