Why do support players either get praised, or blamed?

Like the title says, why are support players such as myself are either solely blamed on a game’s loss or praised for keeping the team alive? I’m not a salty DPS main upset that they were denied a team kill PotG with shutting down a Genji ult. (My top 5 hero hours being: Mercy 216, Sombra 120, Moira 48, Lucio 48, Ana 47) But at the end of some games I’m met with either “trash heals” “our (insert healer) threw” or with “Great healing” “That rez got us the win” etc.

Because tanks will forever be the unsung heroes.

If I get 4 golds and a bronze (healing :^)) as D.Va and definitely pretty much hard carried I still don’t get upvotes. Smh.

Edit: AND DON’T EVEN @ ME

Cause my 20k healing on Moira wasent enough to win us the game

Healers are easiest to blame because their efforts make, perhaps, the largest impact.

Support as a WHOLE - makes the game. It makes any MP game like this, because when I say Support as a WHOLE;

I mean anyone/class/character who has supportive characteristics. Most people automatically associate this with, and only with; Healing.

This is incorrect.

Brig barely has any real healing unless you’re running a G.O.A.T - in which case you’re a bad person - but she IS Support. She has Crowd Control which hampers the enemy team. This supports, her team. Crowd Control inherently is a Debuff. Buffing and Debuffing are tried and true Support characteristics in these kinds of games.

What this means, is Tanks are classified as a form of ‘Support’. Tanks disrupt the enemy team, they usually Shield or Mitigate Damage for their own team. Which you can classify, as a ‘Buff’.

If you’re playing Bastion. And you’re behind Reinhardt or Orisa, being able to fire at will and cause unadulterated mayhem because you have a big friggin’ shield, and Healers healing and or damage boosting you? You have the SUPPORT of the TANKS, and the HEALERS to do your damage.

‘Support’ is literally 2/3rds the entire game. So Support will always be blamed, be it as an entirety - or as solo entity on the ‘Tank’ side or the ‘Healer’ side.

We’re easy targets is all. Had one guy blame our loss on me for being Lucio even though we already had a main healer and the round before I was speed boosting and healing him up to make good pushes (he was Rein) ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Playing in GM, a good tank gets tons of praise. A Reinhardt that consistently lands charges, makes tons of space, lands shatters is a godsend.

You forgot the third option, someone screaming at you for not healing them… while winning the game.

Really? I see people blaming the DPS more than anything.

One day I’ll bother to grind that out. But until then I’ll continue to not get acknowledged for eating a grav and dragonstrike then killing 3 enemies with a bomb or something. :stuck_out_tongue:

It really is night and day when you get into high ranks as a tank player. They’re naturally the shotcalling role, and if you can unite a team together, people will give you props even in a loss.

I’m sure I could climb pretty high (idk how high but higher than I was). I used to just do placement matches and now I’ve stopped even doing that. Oh well, at least I can still upvote my own card.

Either they’re doing fine or it’s a DPS Ana that’s why. At least that’s what happens in my games.

same thing happens to dps players, you either get praised or pooped on, most of the time its pooped on regardless of what is actually happening

Supports tend to have a large and clear impact on the match.

I think it just depend on your play style and personality like if you talk or give clutch heal they’ll praise but some people find that annoying and they’ll blame you, I play and play with people who play generic and we never get praise nor hate, but the person who get the most praise is a solider 76 who heal his teammate

Maybe because sometimes the supports are good and sometimes not?

dps will inherently be blamed the most because thats whos impact you can see the most. The only time in recent memory I was blamed for the L as support was in season 10 when i was a 3.4 zen player put into a 3.7 game and 11 people called me a bot and they were darn right. I played trash that game.
Honestly, a solid portion of the time, when 5 people on your team call you trash, you are probably the problem.

Because as anything that’s not a support, it’s easy to see the impact they have or don’t have. It’s easy to see yourself dying, or teammates dying. It’s also easy to see you and your team not dying.

It’s much harder to see 3rd person impact for the tanks. It’s hard to see them blocking good damage. It’s hard to tell if what they’re blocking actually matter or just had a barrier up to get eaten through before it mattered.

Well supports are the most important role cuz they heals and provide utility like lucio speed boost for example but I wish everyone didn’t blame one another

nice necro there bud
