Why do some people get triggered in quickplay?

I was just interested in your (the reader) opinion on this. So let me explain;

I was just practicing genji in quickplay so that I could improve on him and possibly play him in comp. Sure I’ve run into the typical “You’re a bad genji” comments here and there and for the most part; I expected it and rather than let it get to me, it was more of a motivation boost for me to prove them wrong, but this one game i played got me thinking about this. During my usual practice routine, some people
In a group wanted me to switch off genji, I explained to them that i was practicing genji, but it seems as if my comment had fallen onto deaf ears because they then proceeded to claim that the reason of our team preforming badly was because of me. It actually confused me as to why they would play quickplay if they wanted to win so badly. I would like your opinions on this matter, is quickplay a place where you should practice new heroes or should you take it just as seriously as comp?

Just keep on keeping on. Weed out all of the QP tryhards so everyone can just have fun in OW again.

also that one guy who steals your hero you we’re gonna play so you decide to either leave and requeue or play someone else

People like me are tryhards and try in literally everything. I don’t like losing even if it’s quickplay, maybe being too competitive is bad for me at times lol.

Just chill in QP, it’s not an intense mode.

Some people don’t see QP as a “practice space”. They just see it as low stakes comp.

They have their points and I can see it from their point of view but blaming a loss on one person is pretty myopic.

Practice your genji ! get good… see you in comp and I’ll be mad at you then when you wipe my team with dragonblade =]

If it was a “practice mode” it would say so if it was a “practice mode” there wouldn’t be a win/defeat message at the end of the game. It’s funny because the one thing I never see anyone “practice” in qp is team play. Literally the most important thing in overwatch and the thing that’s lacking in all game modes. If you’re not trying you’re throwing

According to Blizzard more players play QP than comp. I would venture that most of them don’t consider it a practice mode. So yes, many of us do like winning. I don’t demand my teammates switch if they underperform but I do get frustrated by teammates who don’t seem to be even trying to do their best. I mean, if you play Genji in comp and run into Sym, Moira and Winston, get killed 5 times without doing anything useful you will probably switch, right? Why not do it in QP? Exactly how does getting killed again and again help you get better with Genji? If you are good enough to beat your counters in such a hero composition… well, you probably don’t need any training anyway.

Of course, many are just looking for a scapegoat and will blame a teammate even if he is doing well, just like in comp, albeit less often.

Some people get annoyed because quickplay shouldn’t be where you’re trying to straight up learn a new hero, but yet the other portion of the community disagrees, so we have this weird 50/50 split where people want to play the game and win properly, where the other half says “it’s only qp”, while proceeding to not care if they lose or not.

What bothers me is that the Arcade mode exists for this very reason, more importantly the custom games as well. Quickplay actually uses a hidden MMR seperate from your comp rank, so I honestly don’t see why QP should be treated so differently from comp, I get that you don’t actually visibly see your MMR so there’s a lot less stress and try-harding, but can we at least try to form a decent comp and make an attempt at winning? I don’t want meta, I just want a viable comp where people switch if they’re being countered and/or performing poorly.

Few days ago even one of the devs said QP it’s not your practice range and it shouldn’t be treated like such.

But the real problem is with these who are playing visible bad (for example: Mercy announcing playing only Battle Mercy) and later using “it’s just qp” as an excuse.

Why can’t we just get a seperate practice mode. I don’t want to risk losing SR but I want to learn a new hero which is impossible in qp.

You are suggesting to weed out people because they don’t see things like you ?
Wow.

exactly… bad play is still bad play
There is a difference between learning a hero and just running around like it’s a sandbox game with zero care or thought towards decent fundamental game play or the team goals.
one of the main reason lower SR players can’t win games in comp is they don’t work on fundamentals in other game modes. Most of the whines in QP about poor play is about not grouping up, low focus fire and poor target choices etc.
That’s not hero dependent, at all. It’s just poor game play. People would just as annoyed with it even if we did not have a comp mode.

It depends on the state of mind at hand, but I do occasionally get triggered in quick play if my teammates are constantly feeding by either trickling or playing suicide tanks just for the sake of filling. That is not to say my teammates playing poorly triggers me; I get triggered because it means there is little else left for me than to do the same, die over and over, get solo ulted left and right… It makes the match objectively less fun. But if I point out my teammates are feeding, I get told “its qp m8 just hav fun”.

Your perception of “fun” is fascinating.

Some people will always be easy to become triggered. It doesn’t matter what game mode they play - it’s a personal issue on their end. Don’t worry about it.

This is the main issue why people get triggered in QP.
It is a huge misunderstanding by people like you that QP is the playground to practice the mechanics of heroes and don’t give a damn about winning the game.

Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that if you are not good at a hero. Not everyone is a good player, and most of the team mates are happy to forgive anyone who is giving a bad performance.
That’s not the issue.

The issue is, that most of the cases, these people, you are just described and also represented by yourself, are even picking heroes they want to practice (Genji, Hanzo, Widow mainly) if 5 people have already picked their heroes, and the only role is missing is a healer or a tank. But no…these people are picking that Genji of course. This is the issue why are people get triggered.

If that was not the case in your games, then sorry…it my comment wasn’t directed to you. Only to the general audience.

Do you like it when people treat Comp like QP? The same principle applies for people treating QP like Comp.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not getting mad in QP, I just want to understand. I’m a tryharder, I’m like that and it won’t change because that’s just who I am.
I can understand people want to practise heroes.
What I can’t understand is people who just want to play solo without thinking a second about their team.

Do you like it when people treat Comp like QP? The same principle applies for people treating QP like Arcade.

If you’re not willing to switch and you’re truly bad at a hero, I would use Practice vs. AI to practice them. Sure, the bots are potatoes, but so are you when you’re on that hero.

When you’re good enough that bots are no longer useful practice, take that hero into QP. But try to be considerate of teammates who are trying to win and be willing to flex sometimes if the composition is truly awful (like, “we have no tank/healer” awful) or you’re not getting anything done.

Well for me, I don’t play comp in any game… full stop. It’s quick play and the arcade modes for me, I’m obviously gonna play with people who are learning and that’s fine but I get salty about the skill matching and a certain character I think needs a serious nerf. I just wanna have some fun and that’s what you should get in Quickplay.
