Why do some Mercy's like to Battle Mercy?

I’ve been playing Mercy since she could Rez an entire team. I play her because she’s a good character for my anxiety(I play worse when I’m anxious) and because I’m a controller player on PC so she is much easier to heal with if my teammates are playing spread out.

Now I’m not saying to never take out the pistol, but I keep seeing many TikTok Mercy’s valking just to get the kills or to 1v1 the other mercy or enemy support.

Unless you are going after already low targets(I like to call them “opportunity picks”, it takes a LONG time to kill someone with her pistol unless you have GM aim. During that time, your other support could have gotten killed, your tank could have gotten cheesed and is suddenly at 50HP, or literally anything could have happened during the TTK whoever you are focusing as Mercy.

I’ve been playing Mercy long enough to know that time could have been put into rezzing a critical member of your team, preventing a preventable death and keeping the playing field level, or blue beaming a powerful ability that could insta kill the person you may want focused.

I feel like if you want to DPS as support there are so many other, much more viable options in the game, so why pick Mercy to battle Mercy?

I think in GM her pick rate is at 4.8 percent because of this, people understand the importance of getting kills before the other team does and Mercy is not that character for quick kills?

I mean if Battle Mercy is fun to you, that’s a valid reason enough. But I just don’t see the appeal.

Besase I love avia simulators, and I wanted to be a doctor. So playing Mercy is win win, you help, you save and you bring justice to the mortals

It’s fun but it’s also crazy effective. It’s insane how fast you can burn down multiple enemy squishies with her pistol. I’m glad few Mercy players resort to Battle Mercy because I think they’d nerf her gun by now if they realized how good it was.

I’ve only ever seen a few Battle Mercy’s who could successfully pull off multi kills, and it’s usually when they’re playing against people who can’t aim against her.

Big projectiles and fast firing. Can effectively melt targets really fast.

Her shots are really big. To the point of being one of easiest characters to land a critical.

I would argue that, unless you’re boosting to make the dps reach a breakpoint, her pistol would be more effective than healing a debuffed character.

More valks = more opportunities. Healing became less effective to do so, even less on tanks. DB relies on your teammate consistency. So, is natural mercy eventually lean towards more pistol usage.

Did season 9 make it even easier for her shots to land?

Maybe she’s more oppressive than I realize.

Everytime I kill somebody I know they feel humiliated, dejected and tilted. Their anguish sustains me

Yep, try it on training range. She and zen have huge projectiles in this patch.

To be fair, it doesn’t take a long time to kill people. Mercy does 100 dps with headshot capabilities, so a potential 200 dps. She could kill squishies in 1 second before season 9, 1.25 seconds in season 9.

People don’t know that she can do 200 dps. Thats way more damage then Moira from safer ranges. And she’s one of the only pistol heroes in the game. She has decent poke capabilities to help burst down shields and swap between healing and damage like lifeweaver. Sometimes your own damage capability of 100-200 dps supercedes any damage boosting you do which is only .25 boost to damage. She is good to pocket good players to confirm kills. Mathematically battle mercy should be better the more aim you have. But damage boosting messes alot of breakpoints turning some 3 shots into 2 shots now. Or even 2 shots into one shots sometimes like snipers.

Mathematically, yes Mercy is better off shooting than damage boosting.

The issue in game though is that Mercy can only use her abilities besides angelic descent when she’s looking at teammates, and even descent is only really useful after a guardian angel use. When shooting at the enemy, Mercy can’t effectively use her abilities which just makes her a higher health pilot D.va

So definitely use her gun when the moment is right for it, but being a battle Mercy and focusing on using her gun is never recommended.

Badtle Mercy players are a disgrace.

When I play her I just heal my allies to build the ult and start killing people with Valkyrie.

Now is it wrong to do that at some point when you rank up and start getting killed by good players? Yes. But is it a fun way to play? Definetly. It is a game after all.

Reminds me of Hanataro’s shikai.

It takes me a long time. :sob:

It’s not ever wrong to consider shooting as Mercy even in higher ranks, you just have to make sure that it’s the right choice because Mercy is definitely the worst damage dealer in the game besides pilot D.va

Just don’t start her ult with the specific intent of shooting people, that’s not the optimal use of her ult considering she can be giving four 25% boosts instead of just the normal one. Mathematically that’s more damage being boosted than Mercy can deal on her own since all four boosted people can potentially have a higher dps than Mercy.

We have to battle mercy sometimes out of necessity.

We’re pinging the flanker behind our team, but no one is turning around. Pistol time.

We’re pinging the out of position enemy, but no one is looking. We got Valk, eff it, lets go for it.

Don’t worry OP. You’ll thank us after the fact. Or we’ll fail but have fun doing so. Win-win as I see it

Battle mercy is far superior to any other hero

Mercy has a gun, that’s why.

Also, battle mercy is required for securing resses.

Is that battle mercy or just a mercy who isn’t a heal bot?
