Why do so many tanks play Doomfist and Ball?

Despite not being the best picks, these are the tanks I encounter far more than anyone else in QP. Usually on my team. And usually we lose. Because despite what they might think, they are NOT the 1/10 Dooms or Balls that will carry a match. And even when they are getting pegged by Sombra, they dont switch. Why?

In most categories, niech heroes are underpicked. Why does this not apply to the Tank?

Honestly, ive never understood the logic. The Tank is the leader of the team. They dictate the engagements. Heroes like Doom or Ball, though, dont do this. They do their own thing. Pretending to be flanking DPS. Yet when the team fight is actively engaged, they will be off on their own, not doing anything.

If you want to play a flanker. Play a flanker. There are DPS for that. Stop ruining the game for 4 other people because you THINK you can play doom or ball. You cant.

Doomfist is one of the few tanks that’s fun right now.

People play doomfist and ball because they do not rely on their teams as much as other tanks, they are selfishly fun, which is not punished in QP. Its mainly about fun, DPS queue is way too long so might as well lock in Doomfist who used to be a dps

Which makes me wonder why they play the tank role. I like being selfish. Its why i play DPS. I dont get it.

bc the dps queue times are too long in some regions, hence why they play tank for the instant matches
also its quickplay, players are playing for fun (or should be)

The tank role is so miserable now we’re just trying to play what is fun.

Also you probably lose because no one seems to know how to play dive comps anymore below masters, DPS/Supports sit main and wanted their hands held by the tank

God is it frustrating spamming my ult while i flank. Then i use it. Get 2+ kills and half the team chasing me, only to watch the Dva stay behind the supports poking and not pushing in…

I have spent 30 seasons being a pure flex player eho enabled others. Only in OW2 did I ever dedicated myself to a singlular hero.

So I think I’ve already put the time into it to being that role model and ideal teammate for many other players.

But that time is over. I play for me and expect orhers to help me. Which has granted me so much more fun now that I can consider a hero my main and favorite.

Selfish I know, so unless we change this selfish fun mentality of “QP means nothing”, one tricking, and ignoring role duties for bad attitudes, I ain’t changing my ways just to sacrifice any more of my fun.

I need teammates. Not whiners. So either work with my 200 hours on WBall or better yet get out post a needless comment on the forums and act like you were the most important piece od the team.

Idc. I will play whats fun. Not fun for you? Well try adapting for 30 seasons straight then come back and talk to me kay?

Sorry I phrased it wrong, obviously its gonna happen youll have a passive tank but feom my experience thats how it appears to be

Played right they can and certainly do, do this.

The 2 major problems here however is 1- its easy to feed with either of these heroes, and 2- a lot of players simply dont know how to play with these heroes.

A lot of players struggle to push forward when they dont have a shield in front of them. They dont know how to hold angles and utilize cover. They also dont know how to wait and engage properly with such a tank.

Heroes like ball/doom want to use their mobility to dive an angle, and threaten teams from the side or the back. This is going to get enemies to look at, notice, and start attacking them. Its then up to doom/balls team to push forward against enemies with their backs turned- and clean them up from the back (And of course if they dont turn around, doom/ball will lay into them instead).

You will regularly see 1 of 2 things happen. 1- team mates will refuse to push forward / threaten the enemy teams. or 2, theyll push up way, way too soon- and get obliterated because the tank doesnt have any aggro in their direction yet.

Because Doomfist is SO much fun to play

Who isn’t fun? Mauga, Winston, JQ, Zarya, Dva, Hog, Ball, Sigma, Rein, Orisa, Ramattra… They’re all fun to play too

Sure. But no game should be balanced by perfect communication amongst the best players, outside of a league event.

Doom is very good now though. Ball is more of a hit and miss.
But both require teammates to adapt to their playstyle as well, they play very different to the rest.

Because they’re fun.

That’s why they’re practicing in qp.

And yet they wont ever be the one that carries the team. They WILL dive in despite both supports being dead. It is inevitable They have zero awareness.

Those players are probably doing their weeklies and just playing the most fun heroes to them.

The problem lies with either the tank having no idea how to play those 2 tanks.

The team having no idea how to play with/ around them.

Or both.

Because most tanks feel like a punching bag right now and people don’t enjoy playing a punching bag.

In the past, Roadhog used to be the Hero to go to but since he is trash for most of OW2 lifespan people choose other Heroes that don’t rely on their team.

That’s why they’re practicing in qp.
Want better team mates? Get good and play comp.

If they cant play some heroes properly, they need practice. No one wakes up and become a master fist or hamstaro.

You can either duo queue with a ‘proper’ tank main, or let other people play what they want. Dont try to understand or impose what and what not to play on strangers in a video game.
