Why do so many people only say "gg" when they win?

I know there are exceptions with people saying gg every time, but it’s really rare and most of the time when you look at who’s saying gg, it’s the people on the winning team.

So my question is: why do many of you only say gg when you’re winning?

Because it’s gg when they are winning but it’s not gg when they lose. My guess.

They’re poor sports, plain and simple

I say it when I lose too, it doesn’t bother me. If it was a close game then the gg is warranted. Even if I get steamrolled I’ll say it, we are all playing a game at the end of the day. I do hate the ones that start talking smack about their own team or talking smack to the losing team. Thats just rude, its just a loss, not the end of the world lol

They dont want enemy team to be sad or mad i guees. Sportsmanship

Outside of OW, in games like Val or CS saying “GG” is pretty normal. Heck, people even say GGWP if it’s a close game. But it’s not seen as something toxic. I like to view it as something akin to shaking hands after a sports match.

OW is the only PvP game I’ve come across where people consider GG to be toxic. I don’t know why that is. Maybe the players are softer? Maybe they have different connotations for words than the rest of the comp PvP genre, I don’t know.

there is so much reporting as soon as you say the slightest thing in the chat, even it is extremely positive, with this automated system which unfairly bans you without analysis but just a question of volume, that it is better to say nothing.

saying GG when your team has lost will generally be considered sarcasm by your teammates, report, and if a lot of report, no matter how unfair they are, then automatic ban.

appealing the ban will only earn you a copy and paste “you have violated Eula, can’t say more, goodbye” if you ever get humane treatment of your case, human treatment which serves no purpose.

TL;DR : don’t talk, don’t write

When I see GG i reply with BG, when i feel that the match was not equal in strength.
You say gg for you? well bg for me
50% of the time i see another reply smth like - “tells 2-12 bap (or insert any character) lol”

I wouldn’t necessarily say ppl saying gg is toxic, or ever report someone for saying it. But the amount of people who do only say it when they win, and silence or just instantly leave when they lose is pretty Damn high in my experience. As others have said, just poor sports if they only say it when they win, but that is a lot of the playerbase. Personally I just rarely ever say gg win or lose.

Because people are salty when they lose

How do you know that they only say it when they win? Are you constantly playing with them, or see every game they play or something?

It’s not that black and white and there’s other(and better) things to worry about lol.

It’s because players hurry to say GG before the DEFEAT screen is even fully animated, and it’s often the player who got killed the most on the winning team or some other obvious sweaty tox.

I never say GG, or anything for that matter. Any form of speech in OW2 is considered toxic and reportable.

Gone are the days when people said GG in Brood War no matter the outcome of the match. :(.

Iunno man, me and my stack always say GG. If you say GG before the match is over then that’s something else. But if GG at the end of a match from either side has anyone tinkering with their emotions there’s a problem somewhere else they need to try and reflect on.

I generally say gg whenever its a good game (not a stomp) even if I lose. The only exception is during stomps (both ways) but sometimes I errantly say gg out of habit if when won like that.

Why are you so offended by 2 letters?

Overwatch is one of those games that can make you salty when you win too if we’re being 100% honest. The other team played Orisa, Bastion, Pharah/Mercy last night and despite winning it, it was easily one of the worst games I’ve played in recent memory.
