Why do players smurf?

Forget the euphemisms you don’t have to get technical to understand. To be a smurf you just have to be a player intentionally playing against low ranked players though a new alt account making their game experience worse just so that you can feel good about yourselves. It happens even on Quick Play Mode.

When someone asked, “Why do you smurf?” These are some of the reasons posted on twitter:

“I created smurfs to play against lower ranks for memes and fun.”

“In all honesty, it was fun as hell smoking people who were new to the game.”

“If it’s for the kick of an easy victory, it’s a different motivation entirely.”

“I usually play my first game of the day on my smurf in QP to warm up so I don’t feed on my main account.”

“cuz I don’t want to get banned on my main when being toxic on chat”

“i smurf because i “can’t win in my own rank” lmao”

“It’s better to play against ppl that are beginners in the game than to play with ppl in let’s say plat in norms.”

“It’s called tough love. You kill people on your smurf account to teach others not to be overconfident”

“smurfing is nothing but paying a little extra to not play by some rules. Kinda like paying for cheats.”

“I smurf because it’s fun. I just do it. There doesn’t need to be a logical reason like what everyone is making up right now. Lmfao.”

“Why? Its fun lmao”

“its fun, simple”

“It’s fun to win and kill someone who is worse than you.”

" It’s just more relaxing because it’s less stressful."

though some hypocrites will tell you otherwise “you paid for it so it’s ok”

If even Rocket League developer Psyonix has listed smurfing as cheating since a 2016 banning policy notice posted on its website and it is something players can report in-game, why wouldn’t Blizzard do the same?

Could you please stop spamming the forum with multiple threads about the exact same thing? Thank you.

Yeeep ugh! :-1: :face_vomiting:

Honestly anyone who tries to justify their useless behaviour by claiming that they’re somehow “helping” others are such stains on the world.

These forums have moderators and you are not one of them. So if this was the case they would say so, not you.

For fun, the game gets extremely stale very fast. I honestly don’t care if I win in bronze. I aim to laugh and have a good time with the most friendly people in the OW community (bronzies). Overall, I find that I have more fun in bronze with very little stress. To me a game is not a game when you don’t have fun and wind up stressed out because you’re either not having fun or you’re losing too much, which can easily generate anger and stress for most people.

I also personally found that if I feel down, playing a good game of bronzewatch can get me laughing and cheerful again. So, I guess some people have more unique reasons to play bronzewatch as a smurf. Bronzewatch for me is rarely about winning, either which deletes stress at the source. If the enemy team gets a leaver, I’ll even sit in the corner and do nothing to balance out the leaver. Everyone has a good time, because winning isn’t an objective - it’s just something that happens.

I admire your courage for coming out to assume it.

But “Why do you smurf?”

They could play vs AI if they just want to wreck newbs without stress, but they need the misery attached to a real human player. It’s psychopathic.

Just ego that no one else can admire.

You can’t smurf in qp. Unless they spend a ton of time also throwing games to lower their mmr. Which very few if any would ever bother doing that, when they can do it in ranked instead. Leveling up their new account to hit 25 is not smurfing, after a handful of games they will be back to their mains qp mmr.

People smurf because it’s fun. People have fun winning, people have fun carrying and killing the other team a bunch.

by the same policy I can call every silver border account not in gm as a griefer.

Just report it. Crusader has little regard for forum etiquette sadly.

Silver borders are not hiding their rank or skills. The issue with smurfing on QP is getting stomped by a level 4 account whose owner claims to start playing 30 minutes before. There is a rank matching system, not perfect, but as long as your are not hiding your level behind a new account no harm is intended.

who cares, you dont develop your skill you are the thrower, you call out smurfs, I call out hardstucks. Just to make sure you understand stupidity of quoted post above in comparison. Look at yourself from a side first before any complains. You play casualy in low elo if been hardstuck, same as smurf does. That way it is equal “evil”

Hardstucks are limited by their own skills or by gaming gear/ping etc… A silver border will become a golden border eventually because those portraits are based on game hours not skills.

Smurf accounts holders get infuriated when called out, usually the first excuse is " jealousy " as if playing at lower ranks to mess with everyone else is something to be proud off.

The biggest flaw of this definition, nobody talks about how he develop his skill to be able to smurf, thus nobody talks how hardstucks are not developing their skill and griefing games, so it is the same evil. You deserve each other there. So I cant see the point of complain. The only point could be jealousy. But for that case you can fairly say : Get Better at the game. You will not be a victim of better players (smurfs) if you are the better player, or grind it to the top. SMurfs are problem only for hardstucks which are the problem by themselves. But as soon you turn out this topic towards hardstucks, they are not interested all of a sudden, cause like smurfs, they are only intrerested in their own experience. THat way it is biased behaviour/discussion.

Big assumption. An incorrect one at that. I dislike throwers as well.

Every single one of your threads is the same topic and you create one roughly every 24 hours. You could literally make one thread and keep talking in it but instead you selfishly waste space and knock other peoples topics down.

Just make ONE thread and talk about smurfs in it. Your posts are a dime a dozen and I would much rather keep all the loose change together.
