Players commonly “hate” heroes with high skill ceilings such as genji or widow
But they don’t show the same frustrations when dying to something such as junkrat that takes a much lower skill expression.
Is this because of a jealousy issue or something else?

-People do get very frustrated at dying to junkrat
-The “skill” of a hero doesn’t make their kills less frustrating. Mind you, Widow is not a high skill ceiling hero; she’s a high skill floor hero. There isn’t that much there past the mechanical aim.

Uh, the few times junkrat is able to get kills, people get so tilted they create threads on this forum to say how garbage it is low skill heroes like junkrat is able to get any amount of kills.

Lol, those aren’t remotely the same.
Junkrat has a higher skill ceiling than Widow.

Most of the time high skill ceiling pairs with low skill floor and thats the real reason why they hate said character.
Genji is very easy to play in the low ranks, so it isn’t a jealousy issue. I think it is watching people abuse his double jumping, and then claim they are high skill - when they would be wrecked if they tried that in the higher ranks, which drives some of it.
It is like someone taking a high end rifle, and using it as a club and hitting the target, all while saying they are the best marksman in the world. It doesn’t make people jealous, it’s just stupid to watch, and they feel stupider for having watched it.
Having the person then say “you are only upset because you don’t have the skill to use it while they are using it as a club” is really the icing on the cake.
I respect the high ranked Genji players (diamond and above they have to - you know, be good), but damn I had nothing but scorn for the low ranked ones.

Do you actually think that people feel better about being oneshotted from 50 miles away just because its Widow who did it.
Not that it matters because right now heroes like Tracer and Widow are at their easiest and safest yet their players still believe themselves skillful over everyone else.
The truth is hitscan abusers are the biggest welfare queens and utterly addicted to balance handouts from the devs because they cant outplay anything that is actually dangerous to them.

I don’t understand… the top players in the world haven’t mastered consistent aim have they? Watching gale miss 56% shots

I would argue the opposite. She is high skill ceiling, low skill floor.
The skill floor for Widow is having decent mechanical skill. That is it. Anyone who has played FPS games before can perform with Widow fairly well, incredibly quickly.
Her skill ceiling is huge though, as it directly scales with mechanical skill nearly infinitely. Only a human aimbot would be able to max out her skill ceiling.
The people are not being frustrated at the top players in the world.

And that is the floor to get into high ranks. Not the ceiling.
Widow is a binary hero. She has the hero depth of a puddle.

He does. The mobility, the combos, the junkrat worshippers who know the arc and speed of his bombs to hit someone into the air with a concussion mine and then flick them with a follow up primary fire. There’s much more nuance and skill expression in junkrat’s kit if you don’t play him as le epic choke spammer.

Well because of human nature. But this won’t kill the game, ow2 team dont like those heroes as well, because those heroes are not new players friendly, and new players bring profit
Yeah, I didn’t mean in bronze.
We’re talking ceilings, not floors.

“Why do players hate high skill ceiling heroes?”
They don’t.
They may not like a character, but it’s generally what that character does to them in a match, or that character’s affect on that match, not necessarily their skill ceiling.

Because it feels unfair to get hit from Narnia and die instantly, because you wanted to play the game or to die from a hypermobile hero who has 20 movement abilities and 10 passive effects that makes him not only hard to hit, but you can just kill yourself against him if you dont play beam heroes.
Junkrat? You have a ton of options to avoid him and his spam. If you blow up its mostly your own fault.
Same for other heroes like Torb. The turret got you? Well, you where either low health or did not noticed it in the heat of the battle. Also your fault.
Its also not just a simple “people hate high skill ceiling heroes!”. People hate frustrating heroes. Most people dont care if 76 kills you, or Ashe, or Sym beams you down, or Rein pins you, or Dva rushes you and so on.
Its pretty simple: people hate to fight something they cant react to. Stealth, long range one-shots and hyper mobility are the key points here.
I am sorry but no one is “jealous” of a Genji or Widow player. They want them just to go to the funny farm and never come back.
