Why do people who just want to DPS join open queue ranked?

I am genuinely bemused by this, and I’ve yet to see any reasonable explanation. It’s a mode where not playing standard 1 tank, 2 dps, 2 healers and adapting is the whole point. Generally, at least at my rank (silver/gold) 2 tanks 2 healers seems to be the way to go - dps generally isn’t good enough to nuke the HP and mitigation of multiple tanks if they’re healed competently, and in return the extra tank can go chasing dps/healers down while one still faces off against the enemy tank and protects your own back line. Yet so often 2 if not 3 people will insta-lock dps, and even when asked nicely to swap will just ignore everything and carry on bouncing off a wall of enemy shields/ health pools.

If you’re not there to adapt to win, why are you in ranked?
If you just want to dps, what does open q give you that role q doesnt?

Thanks for genuine answers, trolls will not be fed.

Open queue ranked is not a real mode you are wasting your time trying to play it

Faster queue times.

Also literally no1 cares about openq

Faster queue time and rank doesn’t really matter in that mode

OpenQ worked actually better than roleQ before “OW2” and still works fine. Some players are willing to flex on certain maps or when they played enough games as dps. And you can do crazy comps.

Open queue anything will always be a casual mode in my books even if they call it ranked. It is a good place to practice what you want with serious people.

Are you talking about open que? Get a pocket bastion or pocket ashe and you will change your mind about tank stacking.

I definitely get faster queues in role q as dps. As open queue playerbase is pretty small in comparison. I think in general the mmr is more relaxed in open queue, allowing people to face worse players than they normally would in role q.

I am talking about qp here, might be different in ranked.

Welcome to open queue. Good players picked 3 tanks 2 supports like absolute jerks. And bad players pick all dps. Their is a reason this mode was replaced role queue and you explained it perfectly.

Because they enjoy playing DPS, and enjoy open queue.

Next question?

Since when is it faster? It’s literally 1-2 mins for either.

its a silly mode where widowmaker can 1 shot some tanks. lol

its only good for faster queuing times.

it’s literally what OW1 was for… how long before they went for role queue. And if people hated it so much, weird the game stuck around long enough for role q to ever be a thing.

Yeah but its broken in OW2 since 5v5 + they lowered health on tanks. Its a mess of a mode.
JQ, Doom, Ram can all got 1 shot.
add discord and tanks have squishy HP.

It’s fine and a lot of fun… when people don’t just dps. Which again, with role q that has a similar q time, why do people do it? Still not got an answer that actually makes sense (maybe queue times are different in higher ranks, but in silver/gold, they’re similar)

In all honesty, it’s a good question. In OW1 the answer was self-evident: fast queues. In 2, we have fast DPS times in Role Queue, which should in theory eliminate this impetus, at least for now.

I would wager a guess that these are the vestigial die hard Open Queue adherents, who also happen to be old school, habitual hard-locking DPS players.

You can still get openq games in like 30 seconds, assuming you’re playing in an ELO where people actually bother playing it. Still shorter than roleq. Another reason is that people just want to play DPS in a semi-competitive environment where they dont care if they win or lose and just want practice. So openq would be the obvious choice to do that since no1 cares about that mode.

Cause they believe this BS and treat it as such….though I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that selfish people act selfishly :man_shrugging:t2:

The game mode is not meant for people who go in wanting RQ…and it works just fine as a competitive mode….just like all the competitive modes in the game work….you don’t need fixed roles to have “competition”

a perfect game would have been a balance of all roles being equal. so 6 dps vs 6 support vs 6 tanks the outcome would be whos just the better player

but the game is balanced on having roles and the synergy of role mixing

if the game were the other way all roles would be about the same so it would be like your standard fps shooter where everyone is uniform. they could have went this way maybe… if they tried to balance in that direction. would be hard since a lot of heroes are made to be what their role is like mercy

If you’re not there to adapt to win, why are you in ranked?

  • Because I feel like it.

If you just want to dps, what does open q give you that role q doesn’t?

  • Sometimes like to change it up.

Not hard to grasp.
