I’m talking about the ship Reaper76. Take it with a grain of salt if you may, but I wonder why people ship these two when clearly Soldier only had a boyfriend (Vincent) 30 years ago that he had to break up with out of duty, and hasn’t been with anyone since (he still keeps a picture of his ex from 30 years ago and reminisces over it … who would do this if they had a new relationship since?)
Also we know Reaper has a family that he still watches over (or at least watched them around Christmastime). I’m not going to comment on whether he had a wife or a husband, but he obviously raised children with someone in the past (not Jack).
Also, Soldier does not seem the type who would date a co worker, so why ship these two?
Because internet and voice interactions
It’s the same with McHanzo or PaharMercy
They have ingame voice interactions and people go “OMG THEY LOVE EACHOTHERRRR!?”
Like the Hanzo/ McCree lines ONLY play in Junkensteins Revenge which makes it non canon anyways, but they LOVEEEE eachother
And the PharMercy is from one interaction they have together
So it’s probably the same here

Oh THAT’S WHERE THAT IDEA CAME FROM. I always wondered why something so random came to be. Like compared to Pharmercy, McHanzo comes out of nowhere.

People like to ship any two characters, if they’ve had ANY sort of interaction, known each other in the past, or are enemies/hate eachother.
Mei calls Junkrat a bully, HOLY HECK LET’S SHIP THEM
Pharah and Mercy is just a good combo THEY MUST BE IN LOVE
it’s just the same with every single fandom. a character could literally just sit next to another in a cafeteria and people would scream “they’re in love”
it’s why I hate ships.

But you don’t see people shipping Reaper with Mercy, Zarya with… idk Zen or some other omnic
I think Reaper and Mercy was when everyone thought that Mercy gave him his abilities.

ReaperxMercy is the only ship I ship, tbh. And it’s my own self-gratification bc I’m a shameless Mercy main and Gabe is gorgeous. Especially in his Soldier 24 skin.
