Why do people keep saying Hammond Doesn't fit the lore?

There is a lore video explaining how he was in the same program as Winston and was made super intelligent.

He fits in the lore of the game becasue scientist in the game deemed it a good idea to make a hamster smart.

How does he not fit? Because it has no basis in our reality? But lots of things in game don’t. This argument just doesn’t make sense to me.

I can’t link things but there is a literal Lore video the OW team put out further informing the character and the world and other characters roles in the new characters story just expanding the web and story further.

Can some one explain this to me? Or is it as silly an argument as it seems.

I like his addition as it makes sense that the scientists would experiment on animals other than apes.
those that don’t like him are being childish because they see Overwatch as a gritty edgy FPS with no room for fun and a hamster piloting a mech apparently ruins the entire game for them.

Because people like to dig through a 1 centimeter bucket to fit how they interpret the very shallow lore this game has. It’s basically non existent, but you gotta cling to something I guess.

I think he is silly even by OVW standards.

Like even silly heroes like McCree and Hanzo have backstories and personalities.

Hammond… is hamster.

Because it doesn’t fit their agenda and criteria of what they think should be in the game.

Let em be mad, I say.

And Winston’s a gorilla. One that can talk and make a lightening gun and a force field.

Winston has the most lore of any hero, and has been given personality. Not really a comparison here.

But he has backstory are we just ignoring this?

As for his personality it is in the backstory - He is a ambitious and rebellious experiment that had a penchant for escape and tech. Which is in the Lore video.

Other people who left things they did not want to be part of:
Roadhog
Almost every member of talon
McCree

Are they also unrealistic for wanting to escape or leave the things and organizations they once were apart of?

Winston is a gorilla, yes, but thats less weird that a hamster.

Evil genius hamster are like something from Kim Possible or a pixar movie, not overwatch. Like yeah overwatch is kinda cartoonish BUT not saturday morning silly cartoon where the evil hamster genius is foiled by carrots. Also the fact that while he has his backstory he doesnt seem to add anything to still unfinished Overwatch Backstory that people have been wanting to get since ever doesnt help.

Considering that they promised said both a black female and more lgbt heroes, people complaining is a good thing otherwise they will just pretend to forget.

Winston’s and Hammond’s Lore is literally intertwined - He used Winston’s departure as a means of escape they are directly related.

This is what is confusing it’s like people are just ignoring the story that the OW team is trying to give them.

I know, Hammond fits perfectly into the OW lore, Overwatch is not some dark, edgy fps, it is a fun, cartoony game filled with fun and colorful characters, that’s what helps define overwatch as a game.

My best guess is that they are upset that the new character isn’t what they predicted. Probably lost a bet or something.

Yeah but Hammond gets really close to ‘‘this guy uploaded his conciousness into the Death Star Two 10 seconds before it was destroyed’’ levels of useless lore. Unless they reveal an entire lore event like Retribution around Hammond, I cant see him having any kind of impact to the lore. He is kinda like Bagette in that both of them are technically ‘‘part’’ of the lore but neither of them bring anything new or relevant to the table, unlike Ana/Moira/Sombra/Doomfist.

Winston’s backstory didnt really need anything more, as aside from putting Winston on Overwatch it does nothing to any of the ‘‘main’’ plots.

Theyre using the lore as an excuse, they just dont like the character design. Ive already seen people saying “It doesnt fit the darker tones of the lore.” So they think only dark and edgy characters can be introduced? Hammond is fine, he fits into the lore and looks fun. They just dont want a goofy character

And Orisa is a robot? Your point? She has less backstory then Hammond so far

But it does? the precedent of a intelligent animal is there so it fits Overwatch. I think it’s clear what you and I believe fit Overwatch is very different but it seems the OW team might more accurately align with the idea that the vibrant colorful character FPS they created would fit a hamster and at the end of the day the world they build fits everything they put into it I am not saying you don’t have a right to criticize but I think the silly things in this game are just as silly as Hammond.

I can play a whole game of over watch as a grill dad with a beer utility belt, a dragon who bends light, and a forest spirit. All the while while combating a mech warrior teen who is protecting a time traveling lesbian who one time got her only anchoring point ripped off by a warrior poet one punch man. And that is pretty sick if I do say so myself.

Okay so give it some time I am sure more story will come and build off of it? Like all the original lore wasn’t super robust either.

And it does kinda inform more of the main plots of the

Junkertown folks
The Space station
Winston
The team behind all the animal experiments

‘‘Evil hamster murders everyone on lunar base, escapes with Winston’’ is not more lore that ‘‘Genius girl rebuilds omnic specifically to apprehend a known Talon leader threatening her city that previously destroyed said omnic’’.

Yo did you watch the video? Hammond didn’t murder anyone? He just escaped…

I mean those are skins, comparing skins to canon characters is not really a valid point to make.

No one is saying Hammond is a mediocre addition because he is silly, its because he is completly unnecessary, adds very little to the story, and its almost like they are looking at their previous lore and just picking random names to make into heroes.

People are angry because really they wanted either someone edgy or someone with a large chest. Someone of certain racial background or someone with a different sexuality.

I’m glad it’s just a hamster in a death ball instead.
