Why do I lose every single game?

Hey all, I’m looking for some help here.

I usually play a lot of QP where I get lots of POTGs and win matches. When I queue for comp, I lose every time and it’s disheartening. I keep getting paired with Bastions who do less damage than me as a tank and healers that run off to DPS. I thought comp players were more interested in winning? I know I’m not a great player, but I’m getting medals and cards almost every time I play a comp game.

I’m not auto locking in to DPS (maybe I should?). Seems like no one wants to tank or heal though so I end up selecting a hero to help the team, but we still lose. I haven’t gained any rating at all since being placed and it’s frustrating.

I’m tired of out damaging all the dps while out blocking our reinhart, just to lose because no one can get an elim.

What should I do?

***Edit: MODS feel free to delete this. I read through some other similar posts and the responses are all the same : “You suck. Get better”.

I should have read more before posting.

I know the struggle of getting out of bronze and it really sucks but its all just playing the game way more, and actively thinking back on mistakes you your team and the enemy team were making. Think of what you couldve done to either save your team or yourself. It all comes with time and of course having a good PC helps a lot just in case you dont have that btw

I don’t get any lag in the game at all, really. My PC is plenty for it.

I’m just trying to figure out why I’m losing all of my games. My answer might actually be in my performance as Orisa, though. I was thinking about how I out perform the dps in most of my games in damage, not just elims.

Maybe trying to support my group by playing tank is actually stopping me from killing even more enemies by sticking with one of my DPS heros like Pharah, 76, or Hanzo. Doing some very rough math by looking at hours played/average match time/wins, I can see that I have higher win rates in QP with those DPS.

I’m going to try and carry teams with DPS rather than saving them on my tank. We’ll see where it goes from there.

Thanks for the reply btw.

Comp and QP use different queue systems. but going into specifics, Orisa is somewhat niche but good to play in low sr as long as opponent’s reapers are not super powerful. With Bastions, they are easily counterable but as an orisa, giving bastion a shield gives them a massive edge against others, and using halt can get tricky dps heroes like Tracer and Genji a disadvantage. Team chat if available can also provide a good edge [not being toxic for example] as you can do simple call-outs, when to push forward, etc. Learning other tanks can also be a good thing since on attack I find Orisa not the best compared to rein simply because of stagnant barriers. Orisa has lots of counters and avoiding the free ult fuel [staying alive, which can be difficult for the slowest character in the game] is what makes or breaks low ranks. [I mean, you can not die at all in a match and still lose, but point still stands].

Another major thing that can massively help low ranks is great gamesense and possitioning. Making the most of choke points, makes it hard for opponents to engage safely, know when earthshatters might be coming [Rein trying to push, flank etc.] and can make wins much easier. Another example for key positioning, there can be an aimbot [or OWL level widow god], makes 100 headshots in a row, etc. but they can be positioned extremely poorly and get killed constantly. Know where to position, when to disengage and engage helps out a lot in low ranks.

I really enjoy Orisa. Excited for potential buffs for the next patch. Even for how smurf filled bronze can be, it is possible to climb and keep a positive mental attitude. If negativity is getting the worse of you, think of the Orisa Puppy Emote. Puts a smile on anyone’s face!

This is no fault of yours. It’s just how OW heroes are designed. To get yourself out of your tier, I am assuming you do not belong in your rank, there are certain heroes that have a huge advantage in terms of engagements. I played o my friend’s silver acc for awhile (he stopped playing ow), quite easily and quickly reached plat.

Overwatch competitive is not designed for teamplay but for individual plays.
DO NOT TRUST brainwashed people saying the opposite.
Overwatch SHOULD HAVE BEEN a team game but in the end, with the lack of roleQ and the worst balancing and matchmaking ever you will end up winning by improving your individual skill and plays, better if you do it with heroes currently op.
The philosopy is that teammates are there only to give enemy a certain amount of distraction and this will give you a certain amount of time to kill them. This time will be less and less the more you climb up until people are “forced” to build a comp (near and over gm).
Follow your individual and egoistic strategy is always the better option to win games, as far as you can hardcarry games you will climb, when you start thinking your team should build a proper comp is a direct consequence of not being able to carry anymore, this is when you hit your “real rating” in Blizzard perception.
If you want to climb up more just keep improving individually and do not listen to temmates that want you to do something for them if you don’t agree with the plan.

The very first useful thing you can do in bronze is picking a dps, train your aim and destroy everyone cuz comps absolutely means nothing at that level.

Ofc this is weird, is not fun at all, is not how people would like to play Overwatch, it’s just the way it is since in Blizzard explicitly says they want you to play as team but implicitly promotes individual plays by leaving the competitive unfixed forever and with no role selection.

Very insightful response. I’m actually looking at the game a lot differently after reading this. It’s like you took the usual “It’s your fault alone. Get better or you’ll never rank up” response and unpacked to a more comprehensible format.

I get it now. Thanks :+1:

Do what you’re good at and change based on the situation. If you find yourself in a situation seemingly very dire I’d try to make a swap to something your good at and something you feel might make high impact despite maybe swapping off of a healer or a tank.
If you’ve been losing every single fight or whatever and you’re still on the same hero try something else, seemingly - you would lose anyways staying on it. That’s my advice.

Wanna know the funny part?

Blizzard didn’t even want soloQ in the game to begin with, the only reason it was added was to appease the outrage of nearly everyone that played the beta. So we only have ourselves to blame for the entire soloQ problem.

Believe me if I tell you that I’d like to play as team, but as a low master player I climbed up only by improving aim and individual plays with current non-trash picks.

I hit diamond the first season i played by abusing phara cuz hitscans aren’t good enough under 3000 to stop someone landing precise rockets on their faces.
I sincerely didnt give a f__k about comps or strategies while ofc my game knowledge and gamesense were slightly improving.

Over 3000 the phara strat didnt work anymore cuz hitscans started to be more accurate even if their position is still absolute garbage.
So i forced myself on other heroes, for example genji, i fixed the problem of hitscan by punishing their bad positioning and lack of grouping…

Assuming you have the necessary skill level and gamesense, OW ladder is in general SO TRASH, SO GARBAGE, that you can climb up by only find exploits in every tier.
Ofc Blizzard realized the problem of skilled players overwhelming low skill ones since dive meta dominated for several seasons, and artificially decided to costantly reduce the skill gap of the game by pulling out heroes that are actually an insult to every esport we know, so know you can find people with gold skills even in master, but this don’t change the fact that climbing is only about how hard you can impact a match.

Heroes like Brigitte are only the exploit Blizzard put in the game to “fix” the skilled player problem, giving noobs the chance to feel better and stop crying cuz not able to climb up without a chance to do it with w+m1 pressed togheter.

SoloQ is not the real problem, the scandalous part of the game is related to the naive dream of Kaplan about having absolute freedom in picking which is redicolously sad by someone that should have learnt better than anyone the importance of balancing roles after WoW.
Unlucky, the big mistake was made from the start and now this game is literally fullfilled with casual gamers.
But trust me, developer KNOW that roleQ and separate rating are dramatically necessary. They’re just more interested in casuals money.
Blizzard is currently not even close to compete with companies like valve, epic or id software regarding the quality of e-sports. Just by pulling out an hero like Brigitte it’s like implicitly admitting that good fps players shouldn’t have been SO good. OWL is currently an horror show and streamers are slowly getting tired and frustrated by this garbage competitive.

Overwatch will end up like Hots sooner or later.

Yeah, I downloaded the game again after years of nonplay, and no matter how well I do, I lose the majority of my matches via solo quickplay. This matchmaking is quite annoying, frankly. What can you do? :pensive:

I can’t really comment on your gameplay but necro’ing 2 year old threads is quite annoying frankly. What can you do…? :unamused:

You’re right. I shouldn’t have posted in what I found on google. I should have instead made my own thread on this exact same issue!

Feel free to do that. Reviving old threads is technically against forum ToS. But they’re only marginally enforced here.

Also, with your gameplay, submit a couple replay codes and some of the other players will give a look.

Eh, I’m not claiming I’m amazing. I am also quite “new” even though I have played this game in beta. I just find the team balance frustrating, it’s apparent the difference in skill levels between teams.

My experience with the team balancing is its super tank based. If your tanks are good and at least one of your supports knows how to keep them alive, you’re probably gonna be okay.

Otherwise good luck :joy:

People in QP don’t really care so they aren’t giving it thier all and the matchmaking is more broad. So you could totally end up with a stacked team of low diamond/high plats vs a team of mid golds.

In comp people are actually giving it thier best most of the time and the matchmaking is more strict. So if you’re gold you should face mostly other golds.

With no sr reset is just a clown fiesta of sr campers, throwers, trolls, banned people who just go to be toxic at someone . Qp has more serius players… And its another clown fiesta.

Qp was never serious. And never will be. And reset doesnt solve anything, it only create chaos for long time.
