Why do I keep seeing _____ diff?

Why do I keep seeing/hearing people saying

“dps diff”

“tank diff”

“support diff”

You do realize that Blizzard has designed the game to place people with the same skill into the matches right? Unless that’s just not true

or broken

Some people are at a lower SR than they truly belong. During their climb whether it is a smurf alt or main they are legally obligated to say “noob hunter” on team kills and “role diff” when they clown their enemy counterparts.

just a new meme people picked up from somewhere and have to spam ad nauseum for a while - it will go away soon enough

Seems pretty toxic specifically to the rest of your team.

On my main Rein account I get it literally any time I lose, even if I stomped the other Rein and he was hard carried, lol.

Same here. Definitely one of the more annoying memes to come around
Had someone say “MT diff” after I failed to block 1 shatter :upside_down_face:

I only say it when it’s justified, like after a pixel perfect shatter block and then a 6 man shattie, I’m gonna say mt diff

But if you stomped the other Rein then they were right to call it a tank diff not?

It doesn’t rly matter because usually one role is being out done. Usually soentanks are better, which is the most impactful role

Sure, if you ignore the part before the comma

Sure, that’s fair. Then you have those Reins that hold it all game, wait until you’re dead, then get the 5 person and think they’re a monster lol.

Some times you get like high master tanks with low dia sups against low dia tanks with high master sups.
I am not saying the master sups cant “carry” the dia tanks - but I would say in most cases tanks that heavily outclass the enemy tanks will decide the outcome of the fight.

Like when I was playing rein at like dia level (master tank, but 30% wr on rein with like 6+ hours on him) against an enemy gm rein there was simply nothing I could do, he was hitting more firestrikes, getting ult faster, hitting more shatters (which were mostly deciding the fight) etc…

As damage it doesnt matter as much because you can either avoid direct confrontations or specificly wait for their weak moments to hunt them down (given you use the right hero and your sups remotely know how to not get their head shot off)

As support it also doesnt matter as much because youre mostly not interacting with the enemy, but rather amplifying your team - sure when you do interact with the enemy team it can have an insane impact - but it can also fire backwards.
Like reddit lucio plays can kill somebody but can leave your team weak or nading the enemy will weaken them but also trade healing for your team, etc… When I flank as ana/bap and kill 4 but they cap because my team died with (nearly) no healing then my high skill play was worthless and I could have done more by blindly pumping our tank full of heals.

It’s just bm like bagging, but targeted towards your role counterpart if you clown on them.

Thats is not how matchmaker works, he doesnt place players with same skill in games. He places two balanced teams so their average skill is the same.

You can have low gold tanks and enemy plat tanks so someone can say tank diff if you will be losing game because of that.

oh.

well that kinda sucks. no wonder :expressionless:

like calling a retarded person a retard. justified

It does, but you have to understand that matchmaker is working with teams, not with individuals. We all play team game. Job of matchmaker is same average MMR on both sides. Its up to players to work with what they have in team.

That’s not the job of the match maker. That may be how it’s implemented, but not it’s job. The job is to create even matches.

Having ± same average MMR on both sides is even match.
