Why do I keep getting put on the Asian server?

So I want to play with my friend in Japan. Because he has better internet than me, we decided to play on the NA server.

However, every time we try to play together we are put in the Asian server. It doesnt matter if we both set our Battle net region to “Americas”, it doesn’t matter who the party host is, without fail we end up on the Asian server.

Why is this and how do I fix it?

They changed it, it’s not possible to select the exact region you want to play in.

There are 2 types of servers currently:

  • Lobby servers
  • Match servers

You can select the region for the lobby servers, meaning that at the main menu you’ll be connected to a server in that region.
Though once you queue for a mode, you’ll queue for a match in the most nearby server.

The only way I know of being able to play on another server is by blacklisting the servers you don’t want to play on with the firewall, though this got patched IIRC.
(Plus, that would mean you’d have to block all the Asian servers to play on an EU or NA server)

Ah that makes sense, though I am a bit baffled why they would limit us like that.

So why does it always put us on the Asian server, giving preference for his region over mine?

I don’t recall why they made this change, it honestly doesn’t really help a lot as you can see.

As for the reason why it would rather connect to his region, I honestly wouldn’t know.
There probably are a few factors that play into it, like getting the lowest amount of ping as possible (even if the other group members would get worse internet)

Honestly, it’s all kind of whack.

hi did you ever found the solution ? me and my bf have been playing for half year now ( he’s from na east i’m from east asia ) . and usually he’s the leader and past 6 months we’ve been always getting NA . but last month we suddenly started getting my server which never happened before no matter what we do we still get my server . how do i fix this

hi idk if this has been fixed at all yet but i am american and so are all the friends i play with, yet it keeps putting me into asian lobbies even though we are all in americas. this has really frustrated me and my friends causing me not to play much recently.
